Can anyone recommend a fixture to hold up a curtain on a plasterboard wall? I was using rawl plugs and they have come out.

If there is a block wall behind.....then some 100mm frame fixers will do the job of taking the weight of the curtain pole and the curtains too.:)

Post with pics on what to do.

There is a brick wall behind it. I would prefer to get a plasterboard fixing as I don't think the brick is too thick.

The brick wall will be at least 100mm thick...(thats a standard 4 inch concrete block).

The wall will most probably be alot thicker than that.

100m long frame fixers will do the job propperly and the curtain pole and curtains wont come back down off the wall.:)

Were they just straight rawl plugs or the screw in type? They should hold it as long as the curtain/pole isn't too heavy

An option is to fit a wooden baton to the wall the entire length of the curtain pole with 5-6 fixings in place and then fix the curtain pole to that.
That way the weight of the curtains, pole and opening closing force is spread over the length of the baton.
Paint the baton the same colour as the wall.

They were just the regular ones. I might try those with spring toggles and an extra bracket.

If you use 2 frame fixers (shown on my previous post) on each of the existing brackets, then that will be your problem solved for good, and you wont need to use any extra brackets and drill the wall even more.

You can get 80mm,100mm,120mm and 150mm long frame fixers.

A little tip for when drilling the plasterboard and brick wall behind for frame fixers.......

Wrap a small bit of insulation tape or masking tape around the drill bit to suit the length of the frame fixer.

For 80mm frame fixer...you wrap the tape on at 80mm from the tip of the drill bit

100mm...place the tape at 100mm on the drill bit.

    120mm is 120mm

    150mm is 150mm.

When drilling the plasterboard and brick wall, the tape should go dead flush with the plasterboard surface....ever so slightly below the surface is fine.

That means you have the drilled in to the correct depth for the frame fixer you are using.

For a house window with a brick wall and standard 2 x 1 battoned plasterboard surface.....80mm and 100mm frame fixers are more than enough to hold/support curtain poles, curtains and also the added weight from pulling the curtains opened and closed.

This will provide a very secure/stable solution, which is rather important if/when you have kids yanking out of the curtains like they are George Of The Jungle..;):pac::D

If you have 2 x 1 wooden battons between the plasterboard and the brick wall, then you can also screw the curtain pole brackets directly into the battons with some 40mm x 4mm wood/chipboard screws.
You can use an electronic stud/cable finder to locate the battons on either side of the window.

You might not get the pole brackets to line up evenly spaced on both sides of the window,if the wooden battons are not evenly spaced on either side of the window ope.

Personally I would go for the frame fixer option......as you can evenly space the curtain pole brackets on either side of the window ope,and the pole and brackets are up on the wall and actually held/embedded into the brick wall beneath the plasterboard.

It wont come back down off the wall.

I use the metal screw in ones all over the house and even with 4 kids under 7 hanging out of everything nothing has given way yet!! When curtain poles started collapsing I pushed the old straight plugs into the wall and used the metal ones in the same hole!
