VRT and Registration date

I'm hoping to get a UK reg car this week, and therefore will need to VRT it.
The car was first registered on 15/09/2011.
Anyone know if I would be better off leaving it til after Sept 15th this year to VRT it, as after that date the car will be over two years old, whereas before that date it will be under two yeas old ?
    Thanks.

Its not going to make any major difference, if any to the VRT charge. It will be viewed as a 2011 car either way so will attract the same duties.

That's what I was afraid of.
    Thanks for the response.

2011 car will be treated by them as 2011 car, so it's 2 years old if you are registering in 2013. If you want to have bigger VRT difference, you have to wait until 1st Janurary 2014 with registering it.

But there is small different in VRT rates, depending on which month you are registering it.
F.e. if you register it in Septermber, it should be about 1% cheaper than in August.
And if you wait until October, it will be 2% cheaper than in August.

I imported car in March, checked VRT rate in March, but waited tilli April with registering it. Rate in April was 1% lower, so I saved about 20 quid.

Thanks for that CiniO - slightly better news I suppose, but not what I was originally hoping for.

By any chance, do you know the percentage difference if I waited til January ?

Although I don't think that's an option as I believe the Gardai can take the car off you if it's not registered within 30 days?

You're just wasting your time and wrecking your head on a fruitless exercise.

What happens if Revenue increases the OMSP?

What happens if VRT is increased in the budget?

So if you don't pay it you will have a 2011 car sitting around while you hope the VRT will go down or you will be driving the car on UK plates and if you are unlucky and are caught the fines and fees will more than wipe out any possible saving.

If probably would be cheaper to hold off until January but to extend that reasoning you would never buy a car as the 2011 car will be even cheaper the following year.

I hate paying them as much as anyone but its pointless trying to second guess and there is really no way around it. If you get the car just pay the VRT and forget about it. Enjoy the car.

    Makes sense I suppose.
And yeah, I would only be wrecking my head and worrying about it til January - not worth it.
    Thanks for the input ForkandKnife.
