Thinking of booking this for next March but I'm not sure if I'm trying to pack too much in. Appreciate some ideas.

    Here's what I'm thinking:
    - 4 nights in Istanbul from Feb 28
    - 5 nights in Jerusalem
    - 3 nights at Dead Sea in Jordan
    - 4 nights in Petra
    - 1 night in Madaba due to early flight home

I'll be using taxis to get between places once I get to Jerusalem.

I was hoping to get the Red Sea in by visiting Aqaba but I'm sure that would be pushing it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Can't speak of the other places but 4 days in Istanbul would be ideal. Public transport will generally actually be cheaper and faster than taxis - traffic is horrendous in Istanbul but the metro (bus system) underground, ferry and tram network are great and very easy to use. If you will be there on a Sunday, remember that the grand Bazaar closes on Sunday. Aya Sofia mosque, Blue Mosque and the bazaar can all be done in one day if you just want to wander, but if you plan on going all out shopping you might want to dedicate one day alone to the bazaar. I would say leave a full day for the Topkapı palace and do it at a relaxed pace - make sure to include the tour of the wives quarter and harem. When we were therewith had an exhibition of the crown jewels which was amazing. A half day in taxim square and istikbal street. Maybe a water taxi tour of the Bosphorus.

You'll have a great time, Istanbul is a fantastic city.

Have you got plans for the Dead Sea and Petra? That strikes me as being a long time to spend in those places.

No plans but after doing a bit more reading it would seem 4 nights in Petra is too long. So I'm thinking maybe 1 night in Petra and 3 nights in Aqaba.

    That's what I'd do.

It was years ago, but I stayed in Eilat for a week and they were doing day trips to Petra from there. I didn't do it, but I did a day trip to Jerusalem, with an hour or so at the dead sea, on via Jericho for a tour of the wailing wall, followed the route Jesus took to Golgotha, then to Bethlehem and the church of the holy nativity before a 30 minute flight back to Eilat. It was a long, but amazing day.

I presume a similar route albeit on the Jordanian side would be equally brilliant.
