Wedding present for my best friend!

Hi all. My best friend got married last month. I was her bridesmaid and the wedding was in Portugal.

I had my first baby six weeks before the wedding. So between organizing the hen weekend, preparing for Portugal and generally trying to get my head around the shock of being a new mum I have left the present on the long finger!

They live in the uk and they are hoping to buy a house in the future so are saving. I will give money, but would like to give some kind of a gift aswell. I haven't a clue what though!

I would love to hear off other people what their closest friends got them. She is the first to get married and we are really close. I'm terrible at picking presents! They are coming home in October so would love to have it sorted by then.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Gifts we got which we really loved were:

Picture frames - we must be one of the lucky ones but we didn't get loads, and my closest friend gave me a really nice one that I love.
Good bedlinen - I love a nice white set we got, I wouldn't have spent the money on it myself so it was a lovely treat.
Case of wine - we got a lovely mixed case of wines from friends who lived abroad, it was lovely to choose a nice bottle and think of them when we enjoyed it. This was delivered to our home by the company so no worrying about getting it to us.

Love the case of mixed wine present. Think this might be something that they would enjoy. Going to look into it now. Thanks lazygal!

I'd echo s lot of what lazygal said.
I got a beautiful Vera wang photo frame from my besties as an engagement present, and I love it.
I also got some money from them, with specific instructions to buy something we need, or put it towards the wedding (as opposed to spending it on groceries!). We also don't have a house yet, and I was in brown Thomas yesterday eyeing up the lovely bed linen- there's some fab stuff that I wouldn't buy usually, but when it's someone else's money im spending, I just might consider it!
I know people complain about getting saucepans, but I'd love a good set for my bottom drawer!!
The other thing I might just buy, is a good set of crockery, I know it's a bit old fashioned, but I'd like a few nice plates!!
Maybe your friend would like something housy, for down the line when they get their own place.

We got a case of wines to drink on specific anniversary/significant dates and an anti-drip glass decanter. Loved it!
The bridesmaid got us a voucher for Relais & Chateaux. It's for luxury hotel night stay and dinner. There's only 3 of them in Ireland though. I would recommend something like that, though maybe either little more flexible or for a specific hotel they could relatively easily get to....
