    Hi all,

So I've been knocking this idea around in
My head for a while and have decided to give it a shot. Basically I'm going to try and organise a gig night for any and all types of bands / acoustic acts / soloists / etc. an open stage night I guess. The idea came from the years where I was in my old band and we were lookin for any and all types of gig experience. SO, if you want gig experience, get back
To me here, if we get enough interest, I'll get this night up and running.

Thinkin Dublin city centre. Not decided on the venue yet, want to see how many acts we can get involved first!

Will each band be expected to bring a certain amount of people ? Will there be a fee to attend ? Will the bands be paid ?

You may want to check out rule # 6 here:

My band would be interested in playing gigs in dublin city

Bands don't have to pay and there is no minimum attendance. Basically the model we are looking at is a entrance fee to anyone comin to see the show (5 or7 euro. Not much ) and then the door take is split at the end of the night. So basically the more people you get to come see it, the more money you make. Won't be a lot but something is better than nothing!

Dumb seeds have you got any songs online or anything you can send me to get an idea of your style?

Sounds pretty much like most of the pay-to-play ish gig nights around.

We played one a while back and none of the bands brought anyone. Worse than that, the bands all left after their individual sets. We ended up playing to the band who were waiting to get up next!

It's not pay to play or anythin like it. Also, This will be advertised and driven as hard as can be so we don't have to just rely on bands' individual support bases

I think that we have been through all this previously.

Have a browse through some of these threads.

Yet again I will stress this is NOT a pay to play gig. 100% of the money made on the door goes to the bands. And besides the main idea behind this is to just give bands a free gig. Simple!

Ok, and ow many people do you envisage will turn up?

And of these people, how many do you thing, percentage wise, will be friends & family of the band?

OP has stated already that this isn't a pay to play affair so lets leave the sniping please everyone.

OP, while the intention is good, from experience I've always found organising a gig around what bands you can manage to get on the same nigt almost always ends badly. What's worked for me as a promoter in the past is getting a band that I love (and have a decent fan base) and organising the gig around them, then filling out the rest of the line-up as support acts or whatever. Just my 2c though!

Thanks Wreck, that is an option we are looking at too!

cheers joker! Nervous wreck's suggestion does seem a good one, just makes more sense having it that way, having the gig based around a band with support, allows new bands like ourselves to gain new fans and bring current fans/friends along who can then discover new bands from the gig

Agreed, lookin at gettin the venue nailed down first then goin to get in touch with bands like this. In the meantime if you get any more demos recorded let me kno. No pressure , just let me kno if there's any more I could hear by you guys !

Hey Joker, what is your e-mail address, can you PM it to me? I can send you a press pack then.

Hey Joker,we have been banging about with all the indie Dublin promotors over the summer and here,if you like ,are my observations ,you will need to put your night on Friday or Saturday, you will need a venue in town, the Voodoo is ,believe it or not too far out. There is no scene anymore so you will be depending on the band bringing people.None of the weekly/monthly nights in the city are getting a decent crowd,if they are it will be very hard to pull that crowd to another night in another venue. Its just the way it is at the moment. The best thing that can happen is The Strypes make it huge and people get interested in bands again.
