I'm looking at spending roughly 6000 on a 1.6 petrol A3 Sportback. Just wondering is there anything I should look out for? Or any better suggestions out there maybe?

    Thanks

To be fair, the A3 is more appealing to a lot of people than a Golf, and a lot of people would have a golf over everything in its class and dream of A3s.

Its got a very solid interior and has the cachet of the Audi badge.

Its easy to dismiss all that as marketing nonsense, but if the A3 does it for you on those grounds, then its hard to think of a direct rival with a small engine. Possibly a BMW 116i

On paper there are many worthy rivals that will be newer and mechanically superior but won't give you that feeling when you look out the window at it or drive it around (if that's what you're into)

The 1.6 A3 is kind of the yellow pack version of the model, but some people prefer to have an entry level premium car than a top of the range budget car.

I like the post 06 civic (enough to buy one) its in many ways the opposite of the A3, its all space age oddness and has some unconventional engineering to maximise interior space and has a great and economical 1.8 engine and lots of gadgets. Not a direct rival to the A3 as such but worthy of consideration,

Sorry I haven't been on since I posted that. Thanks for the reply. To be honest I'm finding the interior spec on most of the A3s to be a lot better than that of the Golf plus I think they're a better looking car.

As regards the civic I must have a look at them. I've looked at the Focus but it just doesn't seem to do it for me and I can't think of any other hatches that interest me.

Friend bought one recently. From doing alot of walking and talking, there are a lot of junk A3's out there. Priced to match. Don't be tempted by the cheap stuff. The major faults I found were bad maintenance, ABS issues and head gaskets / engine hosing. That said, can be true of any make or model on the market. Best of luck in your search and be through.

I have a 1.6 petrol 2006 A3 myself. Love it, seriously solid. The only thing that is bugging me now is that I am trying to configure the radio to allow an ipod or android phone to be connected to it.........any ideas?

There are a lot of products out there, particularly from the states that appear to work but I am nervous to purchase.
