    Hi,

Can you choose which post office to collect your payment. I have just lost my job and live in a small village. I would rather collect it in the nearest town (about 5 miles away) but not sure if that would be allowed.

Any advice would be much appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Mark

I went into my social welfare office a few weeks ago and got them to send my weekly payment to a nearby village 2 miles from my town because the post office in my town is way to busy. I've been collecting my payments in the new post office for 7 weeks now. Today I got a letter to say that my payment will only be made to the nearest post office to me which is the one in town with the giant ques every Thursday... I always thought you could choose the post office you get paid in?

If there were more than one P.O neaby by then you get to choose. You can collect your payment within a 3 day period.

I'm not sure if they'd let you get one that far away but normally you get to choose if you request it.

I was asked where I wanted to collect mine, although I don't know why as I only have one nearby.

They ask you on the forms where you want to collect it. I know it's not the same thing but I know people in Cork that collect their welfare on the other side of the city.
