Croatia - Dubrovnik to Zadar

    Hi everyone,

We're going to Dubrovnik this Friday and making our way up to Zadar for 2 weeks. We want to go to Plitvice National Park while we're there, does anyone know the best way to go there for a day? Would we be best getting public transport or hiring a car for the day?

Also, while in Dubrovnik, we are planning day trips to Bosnia and Montengro, what are the best companies to use and would we need to book in advance? We have accomodation in Dubrovnik and Hvar booked, would we need to book everywhere else in advance or would it be fine when we get there. Our itinerary is:

    Dubrovnik 4 nights - Korcula 2 nights - Hvar 4 nights - Brac 2 nights - Split 1 night - Zadar 2 nights

    Thanks in advance!

    Anyone?!

I also would like to know did anyone get a bus from Milna to Bol on Brac Island? Or has anyone got a taxi from Hvar Town to Jelsa, how much did it cost?

Would appreciate anyones input to the two posts, thanks a mill :D

I haven't taken the specific trips that you mention, but just to say that I'd be inclined to look at accomodation before you go. While you may be just outside the height of the peak season, I've found central accomodation options in Split and Korcula can be limited by the confines of the "old towns". If you aren't too fussy and are happy to take what you can get outside of the town centres then you'll probably be ok.

    Thanks roro2,

We actually booked all of our accommodation so sorted now. It's just the car rental that we need to decide on now and also don't know about the day trips from Dubrovnik if anyone knows about those!

    Thanks!

While in Dubrovnik we used Adriatic Explore for a day trip to Mostar and would have no hesitation in recommending them. Their office is in the old town and their buses were very modern and comfortable and the guides were very good. The tours are a little expensive but they should give you a discount if you are buying a few different trips. We did Mostar and the Elaphite islands tour with them. We also took a ferry to the island of Lockrum while in Dubrovnik. The ferries and buses are so reasonably priced over there.

We took the bus from Dubrovnik to Split and while it was a v long journey (4hrs+), the roads are pretty scary at times over there along with coast so i was glad we had left the driving up to someone else! You can also get the ferry but it is about 8hrs but maybe it could be a nice relaxing day to sit up on deck if the weather was still good.

We stayed 4 nights in Split and absolutely loved it and just did day trips to Brac, Togir etc.

Thanks very much sun seeker for your reply, will defo look into that company, we're going to do a trip to Mostar and also one to Montenegro hopefully. Do you think it would be ok booking it tomorrow with them if we want to do a trip on Saturday?

Also, we plan to get the bus to Korcula and ferries/buses all the way up to Zadar, it's only in Zadar we were thinking about renting a car for a day to go to Plitvice National Park because the buses are not very reliable and I don't really want to do a tour because they don't seem to stay in the park long enough.

    Thanks again!

Yes booking it tomorrow for the following day should be absolutely fine. We called to their office on the first evening we arrived and went on our trips 2 days after that. The trip to mostar involves alot of driving and possibly queueing at the border crossing (remember to bring your passports!) so make sure to bring a good book or ipod. When we arrived in Mostar we were then handed over to a local guide there for a city tour, it lasts just over an hour and then you have some free time to yourself to go get lunch. The old town in Mostar is all cobble stone type paths which get quiet slippery when it rains so remember to wear good shoes (not flipflop like i did!)
