    Well do you?

I tend to do so...espically when i think the speed van is there to print money instead of road safety

I leave specially coded signs in chalk on the road.

I wouldn't if they were bombing it but would if they were a couple of km over the limit.

How do ya know if they're only a couple of km over the limit? :S

I would for speed vans, always.
    Never for check points.

Nope, never. If you're speeding, you deserve to get caught and pay the correct fine.

    Wow that was easy!

    Next question!

Never have, never will. If you can do the crime*, you can do the time.

    *figure of speech

If I meet someone who i think is over the limit but only by a little I will flash.
If I meet some idiot tearing the road out of it I wouldn't.
Have yet to see a speed van where someone has died, pure money making racket.

I do it even when there is no speed trap! It encourages safe driving!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,815 ✭✭✭✭galwayrush

Always, because it makes the other driver slow down if he/she is speeding, it's more likely to save lives by making them slow down rather than catching them speeding by stealth.

I'm usually driving too fast, so by the time it registers that I pasted a speed trap its far too late.

No. If someone flashed me I'd think there was something wrong and be anxious about my car or driving. Wouldn't want to distract someone like that.

yes especially around gatso vans on non-blackspot roads - they do little or nothing for road safety in the roads I see them on and are simply a revenue generation exercise

If it's a speed van, I will. If it's anything Garda related (checkpoint, etc.) I won't.

I find I get flashed at more for obstructions than anything else. Was driving recently and got a lot of flashing at me, and up the road there was a bicycle wheel in the middle of my lane. It's a small thing I know, but it was great to see people giving others a heads up about small things like that. I often get taxis (for some reason) flashing me on country roads if there are people walking on the road, as a heads up. Sound of them.

Yes, if I'm still in view of the speed van I wave frantically. Most of the time they seem to think I'm a lunatic.

Fcuk you big boy. I'm never flashing a speeding Drab Green Patrol when the MP's have a speed trap set up on the N7 again..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 915 ✭✭✭hansfrei

Always. I see the camera vans as another parasite on the public. €80 fine, two penalty points, a hike in insurance costs could 'drive' someone over the edge. Cost them their jobs, relationships, family, homes.

Maybe they should just drive within legal limits.
Have 2 penalty points myself. Was driving too fast. Nobody to blame but myself.

    No, I don't.

And despite all the "yes" responses here, I can't recall the last time somebody flashed at me to warn me.

Take that to the bank manager, your boss and the kids when they lose their home.

Roads get diverted, roadworks appear out of no-where, pot holes, tractors, checkpoints..... Lots of things can cause you to be late. Not always someones fault for speeding.

No, because nobody flashes me to let me know of speed traps.

The speed vans on the way into Galway are always in the same places anyway.

Yes. I drive regularly on N11 and with current roadside works speed van locations have had to move. Many thanks to the flashers that alerted me to new location 2 weeks ago!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,221 ✭✭✭NuckingFacker

Some lad flashed my missus last week. She said there wasn't a speed van to be seen but that he had very nicely trimmed pubes. I wasn't impressed.
