Does anyone ever "keep" a diary anymore?

Between blogs, Facebook and all the other social media available, does anyone bother with a hand written paper diary anymore?

Attempted to write one years ago but never got past two or three consecutive days before giving up.

Anyone do better? Is it worth publishing today? What did you write about? Do you read over it? More over, what's the point of writing one- never did think much of documenting what I ate for breakfast this morning.:P

Pretty much this. I did for about a week and then got extremely paranoid. Promptly stopped.

I keep a bar of dairy milk.

Every now and again, I nibble it.

I keep one, but it's more of a work log really.

The last time I had a diary I think I was 12 or so. I'm not bothered now, I never write anything of Facebook either. I just don't see the point on documenting every minute and boring detail of my life online. If there's something causing me worry or bother ill write it down on paper just to help clear my head and get it off my chest.

Ha, I'm on a train! Oscar Wilde something something...

    finds quote:

“I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.”

except I don't keep a diary, for fear of saving blushes for posterity.

    Gmail records my life automatically.

Then the NSA read it and find out all about interesting things such as what time I'll see someone at the pub and how I manage to trick my mates into clicking links that lead to blue waffle.

We dont have to "keep" one anymore, everything we do and think is recorded for us, thus saving us the effort. Thanks Obama!

Always have. Have about 6 full leather journals. It's not dear diary, just thoughts in general. BAck page is things to buy, songs to download, reminders.

OTherwise its just things I did during the day, how I'm feeling etc.

I keep one, too. Nothing earth-shattering, just things I've done during the day, how I'm feeling, what the weather was like etc.

It's one of the few things left that I actually write with a pen! :)

My wife keeps a diary, says she plans to use it in the divorce :D

No, I don't keep a diary. I get work diaries for Christmas alright, but it's easier for me organise everything on my phone. I never remember to write stuff down.

I had one for about a year, I had invented my own alphabet (language nerd) and in order to have something to write I ended up writing about my day and my thoughts.
It vanished and I've been searching my parents house for it for decades with no luck.

At least I know only someone with special skills would ever be able to read it, but still the antics and thoughts of my teenage self being recorded anywhere but in my own head still freaks me out a bit. :o

Yea, it's kindof in the same category- that and postcards. I love sending postcards but very few people do that now.

I had a diary when I was 10/11. I found it a few months ago, and I have never been more embarrassed for myself than when I was reading through it. My spelling was absolutely atrocious. Also, for a 10 year old, I was a serious little bitch- always complaining about the girls in my class, and I even had a list of girls I didn't like :L

My favourite bit though was finding the diary entry from the time I set my hair on fire when I was in mass (yes, that did actually happen- it was during the service where all the lights were turned off and everyone lit candles instead). Apparently the incident was "realy embarresesing". :/

So to answer one of your questions, no, I don't think my diary will be published anytime soon.

Found some old diaries there earlier in the summer from when I was 15-17. It was embarrassing to read at times. I don't remember half the boys names that were in it :D Boy, were my friends and I obsessed!

Nowadays, I just have a work diary where I write mainly a constant, never ending to do list.

Had a diary for a week, but stopped it once she started reading it. No privacy, even as a 12 year old!

Which is why I keep all my important memories up here in my brain and forget them as I grow older. Handy!

I've been keeping a diary for years n hopefully will continue for as long as I can write. I don't write anything personal in there n they are more of a social history of the times we live in. It's nice to look back at them from time to time. It's amazing how quickly we forget what's happened in the times past n it surely is a great way of reliving them.

I kept a diary during the summer to help me remember everything I'd seen/done on my travels. Used to have one when I was younger and know I would be so embarrassed to read back on it now! Thankfully I have no idea where it is! :D

I keep a diary written in MS Word. If paper anyone can read it but this diary is password protected. I've been writing in it since 2005. I used to have a lot of sh!t going on in my life and found it a bit theraputic to write how I was feeling rather than bother some poor sod in a bar. A lot of it covers my time in Thailand and some relationships that I was in. My good lady used to think I was soooooo romantic as I could remember the exact date we met but the truth is, I type her name into the search function and I see it was September 17th 2007. Well I remember now of course! :D

My life is nowhere near interesting enough to merit any effort. I'd say the same is true for most people.

yeah there called blog's or Vlog's there a crucial tool in telling the world how smug and understanding and how unique you are. Even though 90% of them are made by 16-18 year old middle class/uperclass male white teenagers :P

I've got one, but it's not so much of a "Dear diary, today I mugged an auld wan," as an ideas diary...

This would be the sister you murdered before you fled to Canada, right?
