Interest in the Wexford Cyclo Cross. Still waiting for suggested routes in Wexford .

    October -November Time frame

Kilmore Quay / Curralcoe as potential sites

Curracloe has beach / forest and sand dunes access, solid flat fast shorelines, with tidal lakes, running tracks and horse tracks through forested areas fronting to sand dunes and beaches. Away from the more public beach areas of Curralcoe Beach. .

Kilmore has the above except the forest aspect. Sand dune fronting to pebble beaches.

Still want more options to explore in Wexford , preferably closer to Wexford town.

Whats with all the sand Mick - it's Cyclocross, not Beach Volleyball!!! I'd say you wont have too many interested in anything with more than a short section of sand. The section of deep gravel in Swords last year ripped a load of rear mechs off bikes - sand like in the dunes at Curracloe would be a disaster.

Have been making some progress with my own club, Cycling Ireland and Cyclo Cross organisers with hosting a race in cashel. There seems to be interest, now needs to push on.
Really great course is available, with hills, couple of obstacles, road section etc. even has WCs and showers, and area to clean bikes and park.
A friend brought this thread to my attention, seems like an obvious idea to propose a combined weekend of tipp cross events? From speaking with Cyclocross guys it seems there is an operning in the calender for October Halloween weekend, This is a bank holiday and would suit a double event perfectly.
Please contact me by private message If interested.

That sounds like a great idea to have them both on the same weekend there could be a sharing of infrastructure etc

better get the cross bike out!!!

thinking more like the solid sand back at Raven point. Racing blocks travel there with no affect .

yes tom, will contact your via PM

Newchapel is nearest to clerihan which is 10-15 miles from Cashel

Certainly interested in looking at the facilities in Cashel and working from there.

    No facilities in Newchapel realy.

Both locations are near to the motorway so we can attract the Dublin Series cyclos.

Both Courses walked this past weekend. Both Courses Quite different in whats offered Terrain wise.

Both feature sloping Terrain , enclosed bothareen type sections. Both have hard tarmac / asphalt sections. Hard pulls up out of the road sections.

Remarkably both courses are approximatly only 20 minutes apart. ...

Both are currently in a dry state, farily smooth and well drained.

The Cashel course features the Cashel Rock Monument in the background and an adjoining monastery, while the Newchapel Course has you looking at Slievenamon and the Comeraghs

We are hoping to bring together the Munster and Leinster Cyclo Cross riders, in competition, to these two back to back venues, both located near Cashel Co Tipp, just off the Cork to Dublin Motorway.

We will still run the Sunday event in Cashel. I will have online entry up and running on Monday evening, and it will also be possible to register on the Sunday morning - Sign on will need to be wrapped up before 12.00 so please come early.

    Please note the following.

Both races will follow the same course.
The Course will be a loop of approx 2km with varied terrain and some obstacles
Riders must hold a Cycling Ireland Licence.
All riders must sign on before their race.
Riders will be chipped but if you have race numbers please wear them to help us identify people as they pass the line.

Anyone need a lift to this from Dublin? Share fuel costs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 TOM CASHEL

    For those coming from Dublin,
Head for Cork and keep on the M8 until exit 19 from Cashel. I will try and get some direction signs up tonight but in fact we are very easy to find - The town is on one side of the rock and we are at the base of the other side. Here's a link to fuller directions: http://www.cashel-lodge.com/how-to-find-us

Munster lads sure I know ye know your way around ;)

Online registration closes today at 4pm, in the interests of making our lives easier please pre-register:
