Steve Ballmer to retire as ceo of Microsoft within the next year.

Possibly a few years late happening but we might see a big shake up now.

Surely the crucial part of that story is the price they paid for the privilege? I saw a figure of $7.2 billion on Reuters.

Reuters are also reporting that this has led to a rise of 40% for their share price: the handet and maintenance division being described as "heavily cash-burning".

A good time to think about picking up some Nokia shares? I never thought I'd say that again.

is elop staying or going to Microsoft as part of the deal. Its a deal I always felt likely to happen sooner or later. 32000 staff joining Microsoft bound to be a lot of overlaps.

And they bought Skype for $8.5 billion!

    Up nearly 40% in pre-market.

Yes, apparently he's stepped down from Nokia to take up a position as VP in MS's Devices and Services BU.

if I was a Nokia shareholder I would be happy to see him gone. He will surely try for the top job at Microsoft. I'm sure they can do better than him.

I thought Microsoft got a very good deal to be honest, apparently Nokia's treasure chest of patents is massive and among one of the best in the industry
