I don't know which category to put this in so please put in right place moderator.

Is this phone number a scam? XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX548

I received a call from it a few weeks ago, talking about computers, and today my mother received a call from it claiming to be from sky, and asking about her bank sort code and quoting an actual sky number for some service they do provide. Called sky and they did not know the number.

Any thoughts? Anyone else receive calls from this number?

If you Google the number but drop the 0044 and put a 0 in at start you will see heaps of information about who they are. I suggest next time they call ask to be removed from their mailing list

I never trust anyone who rings and mentions thinks like bank codes, pins ect. Anything that involves private information like that nearly always dealt with in person at your bank or whatever institution you are dealing with, rarely over the phone because such things require personal information and thats unclear over the phone.

to deal with these sort of scammers, when I know they are fake, I usually ask for what they are saying in writing, for them to send it to me by post with a name and signature. (now I dont want it for one second) but it puts the fear of god into this people because obviously what they are doing is illegal and they usually hang up very quick or say that is impossible.

Just check with sky to see if you were called, Chances are you were not.

OP this might be more appropriate in Consumer issues but is not a PI topic.
Please contact the mods there before you post it as it may breach their policies.

Have removed the phone number from all posts.
