Car Alarm problem

    Hi,

I've got an E36, and last night when I opened the door (manually with key in lock) the alarm went off despite not setting it. The alarm key fob can't switch it off/on anymore. I started the engine but that didn't turn off the alarm. The alarm went off by itself after a minute but the LED was flashing and the alarm came on again. I don't think it's the key fob battery because there's enough power for the little light to flash when I press the buttons on it.

What should I do? Find the fuse for the alarm and pull it out? The car is getting to the stage where I need to spend a few hundred quid on parts and paint (front bumper, n/s wing and nose panel) or scrap it for a hundred quid...
