Irregular taxing dates showing up on cartell

I'm thinking about viewing an 05 focus but it's the other side of the country, so I looked it up on cartell first which showed up irregular dates for tax due, (attached). Any opinions whether this is something to be very concerned about?

The man has a few cars for sale, but I think is registered as a company although he just works from home.

He doesn't own the car, at the minute anyways. From what I make out, he is either selling it for someone else or it's just not officially in his name yet. The official owner has lost the log book but has a replacement on its way and he should have it by Monday or so.

No NCT. He said he would have put it through but for the missing log book. He is willing to put it through. No service history though, apart from timing belt done at 72k miles...:(

If it's worth anything, the car (although only from the photos) looks to be in very good nick. Although he mentioned that the inside needs a bit of hoovering. I reckon he only just got the car into his possession. Ad only went up a few hours ago. I'm very skeptical when it comes to trusting people but my gut feeling is that he's a genuine guy but he hasn't been the one driving the car. Wasn't pushy about getting me to view it or anything.

I'm stuck for a car and won't have much free time from next week on to view them. This is the type I was looking for and is good for €3500.

Opinions on the whole thing would be appreciated...

From everything you've said above I'd look elsewhere :)

Just what I didn't want to hear! :( Even if it passes NCT and comes with log book? Are the irregular tax dates serious?

    Forget the tax dates.

It's everything else that would have me worried.

    No NCT at that price?

    Worse though, no logbook...........FORGET IT;)

But he's willing to put it through for me. Just couldn't up till now because of the logbook. She's lovely in fairness!

If you feel you want to buy it go ahead.

But they have no logbook which is the title to the car.

Search the board for how may people who have had issues with getting the logbook after handing over the cash.

    I'd literally buy anything else.

Gap in the tax history might unlikely mean that car was really off the road for longer, but most likely it means that owner was just evading paying motortax.

I don't know where you're from, but assuming it's Dublin, and other side of the country is something like Mayo where 90% of car owners evade paying motortax, then gap in tax history is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Other way around CiniO...the cars in Dublin and me out west! Very limited options in these parts from what I can see!

Thanks for the advice ba_barabus. I am taking opinions on board. I would definitely be making sure to the logbook before paying though, as well as getting him to put it through the NCT. :)

It would appear the guy is a Guard and sells cars on the side.

Be wary. No logbook and no NCT. No history either. Can you trust the timing belt replacement claim?

p.s 150,000kms is not 72,000miles as the ad claims. It's almost 100,000 miles.

There are a million second hand Focus out there for sale. Why travel across the country for one with more questions being asked than answered?

No log book, walk away. No excuse for that negligence. Also the tax record is most likely like that because it was in a crash and kicked around between different garages trying to get rid of it after they fixed it. Dont waste your time OP.

Whatever about the quality of the car, id just like to point out something about the tax issues:

Its wrong to assume that its been crashed or otherwise just coz the dates of issued tax discs don't add up exactly.
I have a small company van from work, and a small family car at home. I insure the car in order to keep my NCB active and to enable me to drive other cars, the latter of which is more important to me.
I do not tax the car for the whole year at once, but only 3months at a time, usually to coincide with holidays for family transport reasons.
And even then, its taxed for more often than its actually used.
So its signed as off the road by the guards for roughly half of the year as per the current regulations.
This won't be happening from next month on so I'll have to get used to the new SORN system from then on.

As regards the car OP, there's any amount of Focus' for sale around the place so I wouldnt travel too far if in any doubt.

Okay I'm going to pass with that car! Thanks for the advice. While there are plenty of focus for sale though, the selection in the west, for any car for a decent price is very limited. :( Thanks again.

How many people does it take to get stung biying a car without a logbook and then come on to Boards looking for advice before the message sinks in?

No Logbook = No Deal = No Trouble = No Brainer !!
