Howdy-ho - heard someone mention today about a Brewdog food/beer pairing night in Dublin coming up.

Can't find anything about it - I tried googling it on Yahoo but got nowhere - anyone heard anything about this?

    Yup - https://twitter.com/4corners4beer/status/369549351321735168

7 courses, beer pairing with each course,
    75 euro per ticket,
    Max. 2 tickets,
    Lottery for tickets.

Tbh I'd like to pay more to have a guaranteed seat but such is life :)

    Edit:

Sweet mother of Devine, that menu sounds amazing.

Is there any particular reason why this is happening, especially since James the co-founder is going to be present too ?

4 corners are the Irish distributors for Brewdog, James coming over is just a promo thing to keep them sweet and give them some publicity. It's all a but gimmicky to be honest.

wth is "gimmicky" about it? Guaranteed if this was Galway Bay doing it you'd be all over it.

If Galway bay were doing it I'd run a mile, the food in all but one of their bars (the cottage) ranges from passable to muck.

I'm very much fond of pairing beers to food, but this is just a PR event.

When's it actually on? Says register interest by but not time and date?

So, if you're doing it yourself, it's ok. If someone else does it, using a huge range of their beers as ingredients in all of the courses and pairs it with their beers it's just PR?

I really wonder about people hating for no good reason

If they had a vegetarian version i'd be all over this, sounds like great fun, great beers and great food.

Would really like to go to be honest but the RDS Beer fest. in Sept will be my priority.

I don't hate brewdog at all, I really like a lot of their beers, 5am Saint is one of my go to beers because I like it so much.
But they are prone to gimmicky nonsense in both their brewing (some of their beers exist for no other reason than gimmick-sake) and their PR.
The flavour combinations in some of the dishes are all over the place and they are just throwing in as many beers as they can in some of them.

In that menu you are either now going to be able to taste the majority of beers at all or they will completely clash with each other.
There are only so many things you can taste at once.

Your taste buds must be pretty special being able to pick up clashing flavours at this distance from the event.

I haven't eaten there in about two years, in fairness.

I'm just being harsh because I ate in the scholars rest and the brewdock in the last few months and was utterly disappointed with both.

The Oslo does a good burger and they all do that really nice buttermilk and tarragon chicken, but its not food I'd ever get excited about, it's just standard pubgrub really.

Myabe I'm just spoiled because in Galway we have Eat @ Massimo's and they have completely changed my views on what food in a bar should be while still being very reasonable price wise.

ATG is tasty and very reasonably priced. Never heard of Massimos, do they do craft? L Mulligan Grocer and WJ Kavanaghs do excellent food, far above the 'pub grub' standard.

I've eaten in Milligans a few times, was decent, aye. Had an amazing pan fried ling dish there once which I really enjoyed and then another time had the veal burger which, to be honest, I found a bit boring, but it was very well cooked, just over medium so was nice and moist (I just think veal isn't fatty enough or "meaty" enough for a great burger).

Massimo have a few craft beers by bottle and then 5am Saint and Hooker Pale Ale and Stout on tap, think they have a craft cider too, not sure which, they are planning on more craft taps over the next while too. To be honest it's not where I'd go for a few pints, but it's a great spot for food.

The restaurant side of the bar is run by JP McMahon and his partner who own Anair, a Michelin Starred restaurant in Galway and used to own Cava, which was a very popular spanish restaurant/tapas bar (which is reopening in a new venue in a few weeks) and their food is top notch stuff.
All the usual pub faves like burgers, steak sambos, fried chicken, fish and chips, pizza and then some really great spanish influenced stuff and amazing specials.

They have a deal every night from monday - thursday, like burger and a pint for €11.50 on one day, Steak and a pint for €15 another day, pizza and a pint another day and so on. If you're ever in Galway and looking for good food in a casual setting I'd recommend it.
Just really good grastro pub food, very along the lines of Mulligans but, in my opinion, just a little above it standards wise.

Any feedback guys ? Don't suppose somebody asked James about the possibility of a Brewdog bar in Dublin, or about getting more Brewdog beers distributed here ?

What were people's thoughts on fake lager, abstrakt 14 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

AB:14 was seriously good lovely hints of banana and married well with the banana sorbet and toffee, was nicer than AB:13 i thought.

I didn't get a chance to talk to James as he was quite busy during the night and at the end he was swamped with people getting autographs and photos.

Fake lager is not bad either. I'm not a huge lager drinker but it did go well with the ling.
