Postgraduate Fees

Has anybody received any information about paying their PG fees yet?

It says on the website that (for EU, anyway) the fees must be paid by September 1st, but that I should receive a printable bill by email first. I have not received anything from Trinity to do with paying my fees... and need a few days grace for my payment to clear as I'm having to transfer it from Sterling to Euros etc.

I can set up a pre-payment on the portal... but I believe I can pay my fees in two instalments, and would like to know what the split is, and also need to know what the official reference would be since the reference given for pre-payment states that it is for the "Deposit"!

I will ring the Fees Office shortly to find out the official stance, but was wondering if I was alone in not having heard anything?

Okay, I spoke too soon... In the space of time between writing my post, and checking again, the online page has updated with pre-registration information. So I'll just work my way through that! :)

Do you mean the 'register' button on your portal? I was wondering when they were going to start rolling that out, I think it was meant to start at the beginning of the week.

Anyway, don't panic too much about payments. They will come to you, if it is anything like undergrad fees. :)

No, sadly! Just the information I have to provide before they will give me the estimate of my fee payment. I think you have to pay before you can register. Whether or not you have to pay before the registration button comes up, I have no idea!!

Arrgh. The registration online is all fairly anti-climactic anyway. It will happen, don't worry! You and your money will be parted soon :)

I have no idea about this year, but last year it was an absolute nightmare! They changed the online system, and "forgot" to send out emails telling people when to pay.

You do have to pay before you can register, but just keep checking back on the system. It was the middle of September before I paid last year, but I think the deadline might have been September 1st. It will give you the option of paying the full amount, or paying half of it now and half in January. The split is nearly 50/50 - you have to pay the Sports Centre, USI fee and any commencement fees now, but the rest is split evenly.

I'd say keep checking back on the system, and if you're still not getting anywhere in a week or so give them a call. Lots of people last year ended up just having to call into the office to pay their fees in person, but I would hope that they've ironed out some of those issues this year!

Thank you! This was really helpful. :)

I've set my fee payment in motion, but I'm using a system called Transferwise to try and get a better deal on the exchange rate/fees so expect it might take a while for my payment to complete! But when I'm saving something in the region of 400-500 Euros against paying directly with a card, it makes a huge difference... especially since I'm self-funding!!

Hopefully it won't take too long to process at Trinity's end, and I can register soon enough! :) Less than two weeks to go until I arrive in Ireland!!

Ooh that's exciting :) I think the registration process is slightly different for new students than for continuing students as you need to have a photo taken for your ID card etc., but there should be a timetable etc. somewhere on the Trinity website that has all of that information. I think they usually try to get the postgrad registration and ID card collections out of the way before the undergrads descend anyway.

Good luck with everything, Trinity is great ;)

This is the timetable they have up for the moment.

I did my undergraduate in Trinity so I will most likely just have to go to Friday stuff.

Jeez I was just trolling the tcd board when I saw this. I had no idea postgrad stuff started next week... Is the stuff there mostly for international and/or new (as in didn't go here before now) students? I got an email a week ago saying there was a postgrad reception happening on the 19th in the 6th floor of the arts but I didn't hear about this calendar at all. :S

The tours and things would, I expect, only be useful for new students! There is a Graduate Students Orientation on the Friday at 2pm that might be useful to everyone though? Aside from the things on that calendar, I've also had an email from my course coordinator about an orientation for my course which is being held on Wednesday, so I'm not sure that you won't have additional things on next week beyond the things on that link.

P.S. What is the Postgrad reception on the 19th? I've not heard anything about that! Is it for research students only? Or perhaps just for your course?

The timetables haven't been working properly anyway. You have to search by module, they aren't available for your personal one - if it's any consolation!! Apparently they won't work until next week sometime.

It all seems to be going horrendously though. I've not heard of anyone who has had a problem-free experience!!

Yeah, the Grad Student Orientation is tomorrow at 2pm in the Edmund Burke Theatre according to http://www.tcd.ie/orientation/students/postgraduates/index.php

Apparently the thing today is must-do for new entrants, fairly old-hat for people who've been to trinity.

What sort of stuff will they be doing at 2 o clock?

Made a slight boo-boo today and forgot to bring photo ID to get my student card. The proof of registration letter says we have until the 27th so I should be ok, right (not living in Dublin yet)?

They didn't ask for ID the last day I went just the letter. They only seemed to ask people for their ID when they didn't have their registration letter :)
