    WWE Smackdown
    Air Date: August 23, 2013

-Vickie Guerrero opened the show and introduced the new WWE Champion, Randy Orton. The Viper says he just gave the fans what they wanted by winning the championship, and while he was surprised by what Triple H did at SummerSlam, he doesn't need anybody's help. He calls himself the face of the WWE - Daniel Bryan interrupts.

    - Daniel says it's time for the face of the WWE to change. Bryan calls Orton "pretty", and insults the way he looks. He says he had to work hard to get where he is, while Orton was just handed the WWE Championship. Bryan challenges the champion to a match tonight, but Randy says he has to wait until Night of Champions to get his rematch. They two brawl and Bryan gets the better hand, until Orton rolls out of the ring.

-Backstage, Vickie Guerrero isn't happy about what Bryan did to the WWE Champion. She announces a steel cage for tonight's main event.

    (1) Curtis Axel def. Cody Rhodes

-After their victory, Paul Heyman cuts a promo about CM Punk being lost without him. Curtis Axel challenges Punk to a match for the Intercontinental Championship next Monday on Raw.

    (2) Dolph Ziggler def. Big E Langston

    (3) Alberto del Rio def. Christian in a good match with the Cross Arm Breaker.

-Del Rio cut his usual post-match promo about being the savior and hero of the Latino community. Ricardo comes out and introduces his new client, Rob Van Dam. Christian takes down the champion, and RVD hits the Five Star Frog Splash off the top rope.

    *Refresh for updated results*

    (4) Mark Henry & Big Show def. 3MB in a 3-on-2 handicap match with the KO Punch.

    (5) Darren Young def. Antonio Cesaro

    Steel Cage Match
    (6) Daniel Bryan def. Wade Barrett. This was said to be near pay-per-view quality, with Bryan picking up a big win.

-Randy Orton came out and RKO'd Daniel Bryan to end the show.

Two wins in a week for Darren Young. Must be his birthday :P

    It's an interesting one.

    1) Titus Young comes out as gay out of nowhere like it's no big deal (it is a big deal, giving how gay wrestlers have been treated in the past; there was no concern about his future or how Vince or anyone else would react.

    2) Wrestlers and Executives line up to congratulate him on que. Seemed a bit planned.

    3) He gets two pinfalls in a week.

    4) No mention of his sexuality on Raw. On the other hand, the people he has fought in those two matches were Cesaro and Swagger, so maybe they are planning for the ultra-conservative Zeb Colter to be the one who announces on tv that Darren Young is gay and everything that is wrong with America. Yay - homophobic storyline. Should be fun. :D

Isn't it funny that not long after its rumored WWE want to push a black superstar Darren Young announces he's gay.

    2 birds 1 stone. :P

What's going on with Zeb and Cesaro. Are they both 'tainted' by Swagger's issues?

Surprised to read Cody lost to Axel as well.

Main event sounds good, Bryan is working harder than anyone, on every show and wrestling quality matches.

Axel is feuding with Punk. I guess they realized that for that to work, Axel needs to win a match sometime. :P

But against Cody is a bit strange to me, considering he just came off wins over Sandow but surely their feud isn't done yet

Are the PTP a face tag team now

I don't mind the team having a push but not Young on his own yet

That's what I was thinking as well, Cody won at Summerslam and on Raw but then lost to Axel, just seemed like an odd choice. Its only based on spoilers though, they both could look good during the match up.

Yep maybe Heyman and/or Sandow assisted Axel is his win

Sin Cara beat Sandow in a dark match

Rhodes seems like way too big of a name to feed to Axle. Sandow has to be involved somehow.

Biggest news of this week's Smackdown: Big E has finally decided to wear gear that covers him more.

Cesaro's dropkick at the start of the match, much like everything else Cesaro does, was awesome. Someone should really put that guy in the main event. I was thinking that Cesaro would have being a great fit for the role that Orton currently has given his look.

I don't know what to make of the Ryback character either other than that it is quite embarrassing and stupid. He reminds me of Eugene in a way.

    Pretty Randy. Yes, pretty Randy.

Roster not exactly rushing in to help.

Its an extremely lame attempt at Bully Ray. Vastly inferior in every possible way. The sketches must of been wrote by an 11 year old with a C- grade average.
Annoyed me to see Cesaro stare at the lights for Young, I thought the Bryan match on Raw a few weeks ago would lead to a more prominent role but he still has to make other guys look good.

I think Ryback's new bully shtick plays to his strength as a big, goofy hoss. Depending on how over it gets, it can be played off in a couple of ways. Ideally,
it'd lead to a face intervening on someone's behalf, fun times ensue, and it's a moneymaker, however unlikely it seems at the moment. Failing that gaining any traction, the whole thing could just be fed to an upcoming/established face en route to something bigger on any given episode of RAW/Smackdown/Main Event.

For someone who doesn't watch TNA, how exactly was the whole Bully Ray thing done.

He turned heel on Devon here

He would Bully or try to bully people he would be bigger than e.g Devon`s kids Thomson & Thompson, Christy Hemme and Austin Aries.

His character really came into its own with the Joseph Park feud after he "took out Abyss"

So is Danel Bryan's running knee going to be his equivalent of a spear. Stand in corner. Shout "Yes". Wait for opponent to get up. Hit the move.

Always wondered why none of Edge's opponents seemed to hear him announce he was about to hit the spear.

Not sure if Ryback is in the wrong here:confused:

Its the Boma Ye, I am gonna hate when opponents start countering it with Powerbombs.

That guy in the Ryback segment is one of the worst actors ever, how hard is it to portray asking for an autograph without being terrible and having a clear "acting voice"

I'm probably seeing things that aren't there, but was there some shooting going on in the Darren Young v Cesaro match?

I couldn't tell from the camera angle but at one point it looked like Young might have legit accidentally caught Cesaro in the face with his boot. Cesaro then arm-barred Young in the throat and put him in a chinlock. When the camera cut to Youngs face he didn't have that typical "oh woe is me! This move is hurting me" wrestler look on his face. Instead it kinda looked like more natural pain. Plus his lip was now clearly bleeding.

Either way by the end of of the match Youngs mouth was completely bloodied.

I'm not sure, but it looked like Cesaro's strong dropkick at the very beginning of the match caught Young out before he got a hand up and thats what I thought bloodied his lip.

^^ Actually , I think you're right. I had another look at the dropkick just now and it look like Cesaro connected on Young's jaw for real. Young puts his hand up to his mouth straight after like it genuinely hurt.
