Are psychology graduates in high demand?

I am working in a digital media company. I have found that people with a degree or background in psychology would be massively beneficial in improving the business of many customer-based companies.

    So my questions are:
1.) Are psychology students made aware of the booming digital technology field, and the vital role of their skills within it?
2.) Are all graduates in this field getting excellent jobs after graduation? We have received a lot of CV's, but unfortunately none had a background in psychology.

Is there a shortage of psychology graduates or are they not applying themselves to the right areas?

I actually don't have any idea about the facts and figures behind numbers of students graduating, so apologies for vague questions

Part of the solution to getting more money from customers lies in understanding more about their behaviour.

1.) Are psychology students made aware of the booming digital technology field, and the vital role of their skills within it?

So I wonder, is there a shortage of psychology graduates or are they not applying themselves to the right areas?

Well if they are all getting jobs I'd assume they are, eh ?

I don't think so. A lot of people are not using their true potential, just because they don't even know where to use it.

For instance, a person's skill could bring a lot more value to company A than company B. When the same person would bring more value to the company, he/she would get a better paycheck. However, that person doesn't even know and doesn't have a way of finding out that company A exists, because of poor information back in college and school, and also because he/she has a tough life due to demanding job in company B.

I agree, but that holds true for everyone.

I don't know much about the topic so won't go off on a tangent...but I would think there's a sort of overlap between psychology/sales/marketing for the area you are thinking about.

Hi there, I graduated with a Higher Diploma in Applied Psychology in May and also have a BA in English and Psychology, both from UCC.
To answer your questions in my experience psych grads are not in high demand although maybe I'm not applying for the right jobs! Most of my class are aiming to get into Masters and Phd programmes in order to qualify as clinical/educational/counselling psychologists and a lot of relevant jobs seem to require that candidates are qualified to that level.
The fact that digital media companies are looking for psych grads is news to me although maybe I haven't been looking in the right places! I'd be very grateful if you could reply with some links for vacancies as I'd love to apply the skills learned from five years of college as well as time spent volunteering with different organisations. Many thanks :)

First of all, here is a profile of somebody who has some psychology background and is working in the field of digital media: http://iqcontent.com/people/the-team/louise-cooper/

Some companies are looking for candidates with your skills. For example, Squarespace was looking but it appears that they have taken on staff already: http://www.squarespace.com/career-openings. Another company that could be of interest to you is Salesforce: http://www.salesforce.com/company/careers/. Microsoft would accept your qualifications as well: https://careers.microsoft.com/search.aspx#&&page=2

Finally, it is definitely worthwhile to apply for Google, particularly in client facing and marketing jobs: http://www.google.ie/about/jobs/locations/dublin/
