Ah, the Jam Tarts are good......the first few times you hear their set. It's the fact that it's basically been the exact same songs every weekend for years that puts me off them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 84 ✭✭Mad Bull

I suppose just because you don't like their set doesn't make them bad musicians.
The Jam Tarts are excellent musicians in all fairness.
Everyone knows the good calibre of original bands that Waterford has to offer but what does the ordinary Joe think about the quality of Waterfords cover bands.
Any thoughts about cover bands in and around the city and county? Best and Worst!

In the Willows have been getting a good bit of air time with Paul McLoone lately.

In the Willows are one to keep an eye on. Their single is doing well on the radio, well worth checking out.

No doubt they are all good musicians, it's just the repetition that puts me off.
If I haven't seen them in a good while, I do enjoy them.

I remember years ago there was a Waterford Band called Colour ( I think). I saw them on TV, are they still around?

I'm not 100% sure if they're from Waterford but The Great Ocean Divide are a pretty good band.

I think there were a band in the late 70s early 80s called colours and a band in the early 90s called the color party

The band I'm on about, the band leader was from Lismore I think and he'd longish red hair.

Ah that would be Heno from the color party and he is still singing solo and with some other bands

I think I've only heard one or two of their songs but their pretty good, very similar to Russian Circles or ASIWYFA.

Ah no, I wouldnt agree with that either, but I only really want to know what cover bands people like and which ones they dont like.
If someone did have an opinion about a band they didnt like , it could be viewed as constructive criticism , and therefore , helpful to the bands in question.

Not in any band. Just love to listen to live music.
I thought it could become a constructive criticism kind of thread, that people could let their thoughts be known ( without being malicious) about the different bands in the city and county.
It could and should encourage bands to become even better.
Maybe the thread name is putting people off.
Maybe people would be too shy to offer any criticism.!

Solar Taxi are top Class, Skunk always put on a good show.
Missed them both last night in Shortts!

Don't think Percolator have been mentioned yet. A great band, think My Bloody Valentine, meets Sonic Youth with a bit of Yo La Tengo/Stereolab thrown in!

Thata a very broad statement to make.
A few bands around never bother to practice or learn any new songs, in my opinion.

Has to be King Kong Co after their Picnic gig at the weekend :):):):):)

Aye, it is. But I don't think I've ever seen a live band in Waterford that sucked. Granted, they haven't all been to my taste but you can tell they put the work in. Even the Hipster bands- not even slightly my cuppa tea- but they do work.

The new O Emperor album is really tight. It can be streamed from their website http://www.oemperor.com/index.html and as far as I know they're playing down in Waterford before the year is out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 781 ✭✭✭Nypd

Propeller Palms have a post in their Facebook saying they have big news coming, would be nice to see another band break out of the city
