Some really good bright LED ones out there now. I have/use Cateye brand, think they are great. You can get front & back combo sets. You can also get small but powerful light that simply strap on/off with rubber straps. Check www.chainreaction.ie or www.wigle.co.uk for ideas. Huge selection with customer reviews. But buy good brand and you'll get your money worth.

Dont for get high vis vest and reflective strips. Doesnt matter if you look like Christmas tree if as least you are seen !

You cycling urban or rural? As Sasso says, Cateye are perfect I would say mainly for urban rides and (I find) are generally pretty durable. Although they do have more intense lights for rural / country use.

Existing thread here on lights: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057018384&page=2. Plenty of other 'light' threads as well.

www.chainreactioncycles.com & www.wiggle.co.uk are good sources, but a local bike shop should have something decent as well.

A good set of lights will go a long way to ensure you're seen and should suffice. I use a reflective bag cover at the rear as well. Some people chose to use a Sam Brown or hi-vis jacket for additional visibility, as well as the likes of reflective trouser clips etc.
