Houston, we have problem. I bought a car on 10th of march and went to locat motor tax office to pay the tax after 1st of april. But the lady there told me that i can't taxed my car coz it was sold to new owner just a week a go. She recommend me to call shannon reg office to find out where is the problem. So I did so but they said that they didnt make any mistake that I should go to garda. So i went there, gardai check my log book-fine, VIN number check done on vehicle-fine. Gards said that I am the real owner as the logbook is legaly on my name and car is fine too even there is another person as a owner in their database. Gardai made a report and send it to shannon to find out what's their story but they didnt respond yet(since april)!!!
I am sick of this situation coz i cant tax the car or sell it. Gardai just waiting for respond from shannon and shannon is sleeping  ..
I was thinking to find out who is 'another' owner of my car, go to see and check his car and ask him to go to his local garda station with me to get some report which will say if his car has realy the same reg number or not so this can be send to shannon and they will be able to change the car ownership as it should be. But the problem is that i cant find out any details ow the another person :( .. Is there any chance to get these infos somewhere? It looks like everybody around just sleeping and not doin their job.
    Any advice?
sorry for my english but its not my nature language ;)
    thanks

Moved out from an old thread.

I suppose you just have to wait for Shannon. They will probably get in touch with the other person and try to sort it out.

First off your English is better than a lot of us here :D

I don't believe there is any way for you to find out who the vehicle is registered to.

Have you tried contacting the Department of Transport in Shannon directly again to try and speed things up. 4 months is far to long to be left waiting for something like this.

    I hope you get sorted.

The Data Protection Act would prevent the general public from getting the other person's details. However the Gardaí or Shannon probably can.

Is there a chance your car is cloned or other car is cloned from yours? That or a clerical error in Shannon I think.

looks like the other car was cloned as my vin and logbook is ok or shannon mess..also history of my car was checked on cartell.ie and its ok there aswell. I just want to speed it up coz I am pulled over on every single checkpoint and spending 20mins. there with explains to gards why I dont have valid road tax. I've contact shannon by phone couple times already.. always said give me a minute and we will call u back.. but they never did! Or should I speed up in a front of every speed camera I will find on the roads so the other owner will get some fine tickets and then might somebody start real investigation? :D

Just dont realy understand why waterford gardai didnt contact their colleagues in town where the other fella lives so they can go to his adress and check his logbook and vin number on his car too. Make some reports with findings and send it to shannon so they can solve it quickly?!? Is that so hard to do?

Maybe your local Superintendent would give you a letter that you can carry with you while this is being resolved?

Car was taxed till 2/13. I have copy of logbook which was made by previous owner for myself at the day of sale. Gards have it aswell.

    Brilliant.
Just drive it untaxed, and if pulled over, just explain that car can not be taxed so you don't have a choice ;)
