Free Venue for 30th, anyone?

Hey, trying to organise a surprise birthday for my boyfriend. I am extremely broke though.
Has anyone been to any cool venues for about 30 people in Dublin? There are loads available to reserve free, but you need about 60 people which I couldn't guarantee and then the one I would love, top floor Odessa, is 300 squid to rent which is .

Ideally would be somewhere kind of quirky, not just a corner in Dicey's alongside loads of other parties if ya get me.

    All suggestions welcome!

I suggested this in a thread about a week ago, but the clarendon bar upstairs.
    http://www.theclarendonbar.com/penthouse-bar-1
Used it twice, it's free, €100 deposit to book (well, it was 2 years ago anyway). Nice size, great views out the windows, good location.
No music, but you can bring your own. A normal stereo is good enough, that's what we did with an mp3 player and playlist made out.

Against the Grain on Wexford Street has a great room upstairs and it's free. I had a party there before and it was fantastic, plus they do lots of craft beers. Only downside was there is no bar upstairs but the guys come up and take your order so it's not too bad.

You can also play your own music.

I think they've put in a bar upstairs now, not sure how that effects renting out rooms.

It's great they have a bar but a pity if they don't book parties anymore.

Their sister pub on the northside still take party bookings anyway, The Black Sheep on Capel Street.

Thanks so far guys. I know it sounds picky but ideally would love a place where you don't need to go up or down stairs to smoke, as a lot of the party smoke and it can get a bit tragic when everyone's on a different floor outside. Have emailed that findavenue to start anyhoo.

Not entirely sure of this, but I've gone to the Hop House bar on Parnell Street a few times and there's been parties in there. It's a small place, but nice, and has a smoking 'area' out back (not pretty, but it does the trick). The guys who run the bar and really nice, too, and I think they'd try to help you out if they could. Check it out. It's on the junction of O'Connell Street and Parnell Street, across from Fibber Magees.

As Caonima said, the Hop House can work.

I'm having my own 30th soon in O'Reilly's under Tara St station; It's a pretty cool lil place with cheap pints. (All Pints €3.40)
No cost for a booking, Party platters for 10 people available for €40 a pop.

What night of the week are you planning on?
From what I hear O'Reilly's is pretty busy at weekend due to cheap pints, haven't actually been in myself at a weekend though.

    That's pretty sound, isn't it?

    Suppose they appreciate the business.

My cousin booked her hen there, had to cancel it in the end because she could never get anyone on the phone.

No, anyone to talk to about their booking via email or on the phone.
