Where I should I be?

Starting playing march 2012 - 6 months last year!

This year 1-2 times a week

Current member in Roganstown and I get between 25-31 pts off 25.

Last year I would dread the thought of evening playing Roganstown!

Should I be further on? Driving is good and just not consistent with other shots.

5 lessons last year and this.

My goal is to get to 36 pts and then push on.

track your stats and see where you are losing shots, it's probably within 50 yards.

also how often are you putting yourself in trouble off the tee?

What's a good app to track, that is easy to use? Thanks

    golfshot is probably the best.

Ok, so balls ob is a problem.
You have more than one shot a hole, do yourself a favour and play a round without hitting the duvet unless there is a huge fairway.
golf is about limiting the bad far more then hitting great shots.

Concentrate on the short game, 100 yards in and putting if your three putting a lot of greens. This is where a lot of strokes can be saved, Dave Pelz has wrote a few books that you my be interested in getting your hands on.

I'm playing off 12 and would settle for that, not a bad stat if you ask me. I agree with Greebo, looks like you need to try and sharpen up your short game

In a similar position to you Someday, joined my first club in Jan 2012 got a handicap of 22 consistently got 20-28 points or 105-115 strokes for that year.

Changed clubs at the start of this year to a club much closer to home which has resulted in me been able to get out to play my usually 18 hole on a Saturday but also 9-12 hole 1 evening per week. I have really noticed the difference getting the extra playing time on the course this year. My scores now range from 26-36 points or around 100 strokes. I put this down to the extra time I spent on the course and I have also put a lot of work in the back garden practicing chipping and pitching. I found if you just cut even half of the penalty shots/duffed chips in round you can easily knock 10 shots of the average round.

Also try to work on you course management if you 250 yards out no point pulling the 3 wood out cos if you duff it, you will still have 200 yards + left and there's a much greater risk of knocking a ball out of play, the safe play would be say a 7i and a wedge.

My game plan is the 3 S's "Safe ,Sensible, Score".

Yes, I do not have a 3 wood and I stop using my 5 wood, 23 degree and I hit it well but I hear you around Course mgt !

a huge +1 to what Kieran. said
no point hitting a 5 wood either if it's not going to get you there.
a 6 iron and a wedge is far safer and will ultimately lead to lower scores.

Up to regular 34 pts now and also on strange courses!

I think I might attend pelz short game school

Driving is good and so is second shot with hybrid(Roganstown is long) iron pay is just ok

This is pretty much what I changed on one of the par5's on my local. Water hazard on the right ofcthe green so instead of hitting my 5w I hit a 6/7 and then pitch in usually a par or bogey for me instead of scratch/3 over
