Smoking inhibits sperm flow and causes impotence - Not me, I smoke 40 a day and am as horny as a ram from Glan....

Always ready and raring to go - so what genius came up with that scientific gem?

I like the ones that have been translated into English like "Smoking Can Kill".

I'd like if they put on the packs that smoking can decrease the risks of Parkinsons Disease and stomach ulcers.

Proven facts by the way, for every bad there's a good if you put the phrase in reverse. :pac:

This thread is sad, trying to justify a habit that literally kills you slowly, and irritates most people around you.
Just because you don't see the same side effects that the majority of people see it doesn't mean they're not real.

How old are you? A 25 year old smoker isn't going to see the effects yet, roll on to 50 and as the damage has built up the problems start. 25 year olds don't get lung cancer, or suffer from environmental cardiovascular disease(though the signs start early).
I'd like if they put on the packs that smoking can decrease the risks of Parkinsons Disease and stomach ulcers.
and that ulcerative colitis is almost exclusively a disease of non and ex smokers.
1 out of 2 smokers won't get cancer.
Actually if you look at the stats cancer isn't the biggest killer from ciggies, it's cardiovascular disease. If your willie stops working at it's best then that's a bad sign that the cardiovascular system is compromised.

Still, now that tobacco use is dropping which is a very good thing, watch as other environmental (and avoidable) disease takes up the baton. EG blood sugar/insulin conditions(type 2 diabetes/PCOS) which can cause nearly as many horrible effects as smoking. You're more likely to lose a leg because of diabetes than you are from smoking. Smoking doesn't cause blindness, but diabetes can. IMHO a bag of sugar should have graphic warning labels too.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

The trouble is that there is not much science on this aspect of smoking. The only reference I could find is a study from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. John Spangler, M.D. reported to the American Society of Hypertension, "that men with high blood pressure who smoke are 26 times more likely to have erectile dysfunction, better known as impotence". However no details of this 'study' were ever published and it did not report whether the impotence was more due to the hypertension than to the smoking.

    Smokers are hilarious.

It won't kill me today, so: yay! Keep smoking!

It won't kill me as bad as diabetes, so: yay! Keep smoking!

I didn't want to be old anyway, so: yay! Keep smoking!

Free birth control, so: yay! Keep smoking!

I totally enjoy it and it's got absolutely nothing to do with just being addicted to it, so: yay! Keep smoking!

All the cool kids smoke, so: yay! Keep smoking!

Also - smokers will DESTROY any arguments about the adverse effects of smoking if it's not totally up to scratch - they will nerd up and go AT that sh1t like Arnie had a kid with Moss from the IT crowd. But they will ignore every single bit of research that actually proves there's a health risk to it as well.

Sugar doesn't cause type 2 diabetes. Just being overweight can cause it, and eating too much food (not just sugar) can lead to becoming overweight. Your genetic makeup also plays a big role.

It's a myth that eating lots of sugar causes diabetes.

Gave up a while ago myself but I really don't think there is one person out there that smokes that thinks it's healthy or will not contribute to destroying your health, Or is cool

If they enjoy it, whats the problem! No one's business to be fair, the only people that go on about it all the time are folks like you trying to be smug and cool because you think your super healthy from not smoking.

Smokers could not give a shít what people think, And Non-Smokers could not give a shít about smokers either TBH.

WHAT is your problem? I am an ex-smoker. I gave it up 2 years ago mainly for financial reasons. I have no problem with smokers because they are not allowed to smoke in any place where it would annoy me. I don't feel the need to rant at smokers. If that's what they want to do, it's no skin off my nose. I suppose some people are just intolerant by nature and keep feeling the need to rant at something.

If one in two smokers will die from it then they will end up in hospital at some stage, also children of smokers are more likely to smoke, both of which make it a public health issue.

Refined sugars esp fructose are one of the biggest agents in the cause of the disease. In societies with no refined carbs diabetes is to all intents and purposes unknown. Indeed while type one diabetes is one of the earliest recorded diseases(the ancient Egyptians and Greek doctors knew of it), type 2 is remarkably recent, especially in the numbers we see today. In the history of medicine it doesn't show up until Islamic doctors describe it and describe the cure as cutting out rich food pronto.
Just being overweight can cause it, and eating too much food (not just sugar) can lead to becoming overweight. Your genetic makeup also plays a big role.
Genetics may leave one more prone to it, but by far the biggest cause of type 2 diabetes is environmental/self inflicted. If it wasn't then cultures where it's almost unknown would still have type 2 diabetics and they don't. You can observe this when such cultures become more westernised. This happened with the Eskimo folks. The ones who bought into the western diet within a generation were fatter, diabetes went through the roof as did dental caries and heart disease. The holdouts who stayed more traditional didn't have any such issues.
It's a myth that eating lots of sugar causes diabetes.
If you believe that, then you would believe that lung cancer isn't caused by smoking. After all the majority of smokers never succumb to it and non smokers get it too. Still if you want to increase your risk of the disease tenfold, then take up smoking. The correlation between excess carbs in the diet and diabetes is damn near a given.

Smokers are selfish. They never ask could they light up, just go ahead anyway.

My own sister rented a place, no smoking allowed, she went outside. She has no problem standing outside pubs and restaurants to smoke. She even pretends to the neighbours she doesn't smoke, cause she minds their kids and they dont like it. When she is at their house, kids in bed and she'll stand outside.

But then she comes home and to fcuk with us, her own family. My mother gave up smoking and I get headaches and if you ask her to go out she wont.

I wanted to watch some tv before, she was in the sitting room smoking and I asked her to stop or go outside and I was told "i was here first". Ok, so this is how it goes. I was in the sitting room another time and did it matter that I was in there first, did it fcuk?

The lot of them are selfish.

Fine, that's your decision. It's the ignorant people that smoke around others without any consideration that annoys me. Second hand is a lot worse than you think, and it's not right to poison people without their consent. Parents who smoke with kids in the back seat are the worst offenders by far.

However I was referring to parents who smoke around children indoors & in cars mainly.

"It's never me, it's always them" That's the offensive part. Defending smoking is a hiding to nothing, but that's not my point.

First hand smoke doesn't bother me unless in a confined space.
Dont know why but second hand smoke seems to be more unpleasant.
Close proximity to many smokers is a double sense offensive of BO and halitosis.

Dont kid yourself, most people say nothing, but will tend to keep themselves at a distance. In private they may mention it quietly to other work colleagues but rarely to the person themselves.
