04 Astra revs on startup

    u have an 04 Astra but recently the car has started revving when I start it up! it dies down after a few minutes and drives fine! it is also fine if I turn it off and turn it on soon after. it only seems to be when left off for a long period! is this normal? I have attached a video also!

    Only when car is cold yeah? It's going up to 2k, a bit high but possibly it's the autochoke?

    yeah it's only when cold! would this have any adverse effect to the car or should I bring it to mechanic ?

    I wouldn't be too worried but you could trying a clean of the throttle body and the idle control vale.
    You can find instruction on youtube or google it.

    Maybe someone with a similar car knows more.

    My '00 Astra jumps to about 1,550 RPM on startup but once I rev it to 2,000 or so then it settles back down and idles at about 1,000. Been that way for as long as I can remember, doesn't seem to have caused any problems and put it through two NCTs since then fine.
