Incremental Question

    Hi all,

Just wondering if someone can advise. I was lucky enough to be offered a Career Break with full hours for the coming year. I was working last year on a Part-Time basis, for the full year - was just never offered any contract by the VEC.

So my query is regarding the increments and pay - I am qualified two years, and worked in London my first year out of the PGDE, and then as I said as Part-Time (with plenty of hours each week).

The school I got the new job with is a different VEC to the one I was working with last year - so is there a procedure to prove the hours that I have taught and therefore receive the appropriate increment - or do the VEC's communicate with each other to sort this stuff out?

    Thanks for reading!

What happens is that you get the first vec to respond to the second if you changed during the school year. the first school will count the hours you worked and the second add to them.

Hours must be in your own name. You get nothing for working hours while someone is on career break as far as I know despite the fact that the person on break will not get one either.

If you stayed with a VEC for the whole year its easy enough its in the TUI website you need to have worked a certain number of hours I think like 18 a week to get an increment. If you have less then the hours add to the next year. I did 14 last year so no increment for me for example but just 4 hours this year and then okay for the next year.

Your UK experience if full time will count for full increment so long as it was a state inspected school. Its in the EU.

Remember there is an incremental freeze in place....

They don't have to be your own hours to get an increment

I was under the impression that hours don't have to be your own for incremental credit. I had hours transferred from the VEC(maternity cover) to the Dept., and I'm almost certain I got an increment for them.

Oh sorry about that I think I was mixing up getting recognised to CID which no longer is the case.

Good news for me as I might at some point get an increment this year :o
