Sounds like a contrived excuse for a themed weekend, but some of the shows might be good. Nice to see Fifteen to One making a one-off comeback (although without the legendary William G Stewart, sadly), and the Big Fat Quiz can be very good, sometimes.
The evening will host a night of classic shows, all given a nostalgic twist and in between programmes, viewers will be treated to a host of comedy sketches featuring some interesting celebrities. Kicking things off is the return of Fifteen to One, back on screens after ten years. With Adam Hills at the helm, we’ll see fifteen celebrities go head to head as they battle it out to win the notoriously tough quiz show. There’ll then be an 80s makeover of Cats Does Countdown and Alan Carr will welcome some 80’s sparkle into the studio in a special Chatty Man. The programming will end with a documentary throwback to 80s music show Rewind: The Tube, which will look at the programme’s rise and fall, the social context that it existed in and also feature a host of stars looking back at their contributions.

The 80s theme will follow on Saturday with a classic 80s film and on Sunday, two celebrity teams will have their memories challenged in the Big Fat Quiz of the 80s**.

** Chortle reports that it is a new Big Fat Quiz of the 80s, not a repeat of last year's episode

In the 80's Channel 4 had some fantastic output, I would have expected much more than a few comedy specials from a Channel 4 80's night. I guess they don't want to remind people how good they were and how far they've fallen since then.

Late night foreign movies with the prospect of nudity or even more? :pac:

C4 are having a porn season you'll be pleased to know

As for the 80s night - they should just reshow stuff like early Brookie, A Very British Coup and so on.

Perfect opportunity to show some Classic Brookside I would have thought.

To be fair, they did have a 'Funny fortnight' last year where they showed some of their old shows.

Channel 4 has changed a lot in recent years, but at least they have some good archive material on 4OD.

    It certainly has changed Skid.........

It was for sure a different TV Channel in those days!!

I remember the bed on "Big Breakfast" with Paula and Michael....Bob must have been stone blind not to have seen the danger there!!

*checks Wikipedia to see if 'Eurotrash' started in the 80's*

    :(:(:(:(:(

Would be good to see 'The Tube' though - classic moments such as The Jam's final TV performance IIRC.

Plus 'Saturday Live', an attempt at the UK's own version of SNL - Loadsamoney, The Dangerous Brothers and the comedy genius that is Emo Phillips :D

I can't help but wonder if the fact that WGS is now 78 played a part in C4's decision to have a 43-year-old Aussie comedian presenting... :o

Let's hope, though, that Paul Maguire's awesome synthesised theme tune is still present.

As for the makeover of Cats Is Supposedly Much Better Than Nick Hewer... uh, I mean, Cats Does Countdown, I presume they'll recreate the pastel-coloured set used from 1982 to 1989, and play the original versions of Alan Hawkshaw's theme tune and clock music.

And surely an 80s-themed weekend wouldn't be complete without at least one playing of the original blocks ident, along with David Dundas's "Fourscore" theme.

I'd love an "80s channel" myself.. bet it'd get massive ratings too. I've NEVER like Channel 4 though - even less so since the Big Brother era when it became wall-to-wall reality crap

I was a child of Sky back when it looked like this:

You've NEVER liked Channel 4?!

Not even when it was showing ITV Schools?

When its racing coverage used this theme tune (again composed by Alan Hawkshaw)?

When Sunday afternoons were all about Italian football?

And when its documentaries included Equinox?
