Hey does anyone know of any places that you can walk in and try out some stuff or get a taste for? I was thinking something like pottery or glassmaking or something like that but doesn't have to be as long as it's some kind of arts crafts type doing. Any info appreciated!

I did this in 'Art in Action' in Farmleigh last year - short workshops in lots of crafts Unfortunately I don't think it ran this year. Haven't heard a thing about it. http://www.artinaction.ie/

I'd be also interested in finding out if there is anything similar happening somewhere else.

Your local craft shop may run demo days for particular products or techniques. And the Knit and Stitch show that takes place in the RDS every Halloween usually has workshops and demos throughout the day - normally cardmaking but there would be other techniques depending on who is exhibiting at the show.

They both look good cheers for that. I'm wondering if there's a weekly thing somewhere that happens though, something you can just pop into on a sunday afternoon or so.

You'll almost certainly find some kind of weekly craft class taking place somewhere near you, maybe evenings rather than Sunday afternoons.
Try these links I posted in the Craft Courses thread:

    You could try Mindhives.
Irish Craft Update lists craft fairs, classes and suppliers across the country.
And the Crafts Council of Ireland now have a search option for classes and other events.
You are likely to find daytime and weekend courses listed at any of the above. There will probably be a much better selection of evening classes from September onwards, likewise in your local papers.

However, I doubt very much that you'll get a walk-in class (as opposed to a walk-in demo). I give craft classes myself and can tell you there's a lot of advance preparation required, including buying in sufficient materials. I once had a candlemaking class where 12 people had booked (my stated max. number of participants) but 22 people showed up!!! Needless to say, there just wasn't room for everyone. So I don't think you'll have much chance of gettting a class that you don't need to book in advance.
Maybe your best bet would be something like painting pottery?
