DV Refuge in Wexford to close

Such are the budget cuts in funding and the rise in demand with women and children being turned away and costs of running that the only women's refuge in Wexford is having to close for 13 weeks.

Monaghan, Cavan, Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon, Longford, Offaly, Carlow and Laois and Kildare have no refuge places at all. One was built in Kildare but has never opened.

It must be horrible to have gotten to the stage were you screw up your courage walk away from your home for the sake of your own safety to find there is no support for you.

There are not enough services, none really for fathers with children and it seems that the refuges which are there can't cater to LGBT people who need services.

It makes me so angry at the money wasted on the banks and during the 'Celtic tiger' years doing up offices when there are people who don't have a safe space to run to.
