Student emergency tax refund

    Hi all,

I am enquiring on behalf of a friend of mine. A US citizen, but who is permitted to work in Ireland part time under the terms of the visa.

She worked a part time job for a few weeks, but did not get her tax credit certificate (using form 12A) prior to starting work. Thus, in the absence of a P45 from a previous employer, she was emergency taxed.

That job has finished, and she will not be working again this year.

To claim that tax back, she will need to send her P45, along with a P50 form to the tax office. Fairly straightforward so far I guess (unless I am completely mistaken).

    My question is quite specific:

Prior to doing that, does she need to do the form 12A to get a tax credit certificate? Or is the P45 and P50 form enough to claim the refund?

    Many thanks
    Grandpa

Edit: Apologies. I should have maybe posted that in the sticky. Feel free to move

If she hasn't sent in a 12a then Revenue have no record of her. To sort it all out, send a 12a, p50 and p45 all in one go with a cover letter.
