Aircon issue

I have a 07 Octavia with 110,000 miles on it. This time last year, the climate control stopped cooling the air properly, and over time started making a slight ticking noise when in use. If I switched on the "Econ" mode, the ticking stopped.

There was a special offer on aircon regassing at a local quick fit at the time, so I got that done and it sorted the problem.

Now, after using the aircon a lot over the past 2 months, it has gone back to the same fault, no real cold air and the ticking sound.

Any suggestions as to whats wrong ?

    Thanks.

    Slow leak?

Possibly a leak somewhere, maybe in the condenser.
Or the Compressor could be knackered.

    I wouldn't go near Kwik-Fit tbh.

AFAIK the machines they use are completely automated. I doubt they'd be able to fix anything, but they should be able to diagnose a leak.

The AC gas usually contain a dye that is visible under a black light. Get a strong black light and have a look around for a spray pattern. There is a leak there somewhere, hopefully it's a join somewhere. If the AC have got very little use the compressor might be gone.

True but they'll still charge you for it and you'll have to get it diagnosed and repaired at a different place anyway.

Kwik-Fit don't do repairs beyond pads and discs, tyres, filters and oil changes.

They've even been known to make a balls of those

That's true, but they are very cheap at the moment and, as dantastic said, they might be able to see where the leak is with a black light. I mean hey, €40 got the op a year last time! :)

40 quid ... thats not bad ... its 100 quid over here and 80 euros at the 'special price'

55 euros at my Local Indy.

At those figures the indy would make more sense alright - plus they might be able to actually fix it!
