Hi there, I come seeking advice, in the market for a second car for the wife. Baby on the way so she'll need a run around for her maternity leave. Budget is about €4-€5k max. Ideally the car will be no more than a 1.4 petrol to keep tax and insurance costs down. I was looking at 06 Focus, vw Boras, golfs, that kind of thing. Any other ideas people would have would be very much appreciated. I read on another thread that the focus was quite unreliable... Bear in mind that this car will not be used for long trips that often , it'll be mostly used to tip about to the shops and be big enough to fit a buggy etc. just wonder what other people did in this situation cos I would baulk at buying a féckin people carrier or anything like it. Thanks in advance!!!

my wife has an 03 1.2l and i have to say it is an amazing little car. the only problem we've ever had with it is the front passenger window motor died last month. haven't gotten it fixed yet. it has a strong boring interior which is great, no gadgets to cause problems. i'm a big fan.

however, it's not very child friendly.
    1. no air con - when you're driving around in hot weather it's great to have.
    2. we had a quinny/maxi-cosi travel system. the isofix base severely restricts room for the front passenger.
    3. the frame for the travel system wouldn't fit into the boot without taking off the wheels. not a big inconvenience but when you're wife is off doing shopping in tesco and its p'ing rain it'll but her.
    4. we recently moved on to a standard stroller as our little one is growing quickly. the stroller won't fit in the boot. it has to go flat along the ground in the back.

bootspace becomes very important when a baby arrives. ya can get an octavia in 1.4 i think. it'll be heavy but very practical and comfortable.

If you're thinking golf, then look at a golf plus, higher roofline would make loading child in easier.

I have a 02 corrolla hatch back 1.4 since new, lots of room, great boot space, cheap to run. You'd pick up a good one in your price range.
