    Hello,

I was wondering as it says in the title how much Insurance would be on a 17 year old on parents policy. The car I would be going on is a toyota corolla 1.3 litre and both my parents are driving nearly 40 years with no accidents whatsoever. You see i leave out in the country side and places i need to go are 2 or three miles away from me.Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks for reading.

They need to ring their insurer and find out. Nobody in here is going to be able to give you an answer.

Only your parents insurers can answer that, but it is unlikely to be under €1k per year extra

Ring around and ask. No one here can give an accurate price, too many variables to consider

Your parent's insurance company won't talk to you. They'll have to make the call

Roughly the rule is ~10% of the policy is the price for 25 year old to 70 year old named driver with license and often double that for provisional license
(named driver can also mean only third party not comprehensive insured so watch that trick they can play sometimes )

Then the nasty stuff kicks in younger than 25 loading are applied and often they will not do comprehensive thrown in .
If provisional that number whatever it is often doubles

a typical example in 2010 would be like my cousin his policy was something like €500 full no claims .His 17 year old daughter at that time with provisional for 1999 1.9 petrol Volvo V40m was €1000 euros and when she got full license it went to €500 third party only
His son the next year it was double the price basically because he was boy €2000 for provisional and 1000 when he would get license so they opted to wait until he was 18 as the price halved again ball park number

I was named driver on the policy Comprehensive as i worked on farm with cousin using his car to tow things and it cost nothing at all just send in the copy of license if i recall

It varies from company to company and some car insurance companies it seems will try every dirty trick to not even do named drivers for 17 year old so in those cases your parents might have to switch to another company that will.

Have you thought about a 50cc scooter for those small distances it probably easier and cheaper and great way to learn the road get the experience if you don't fall off .

I paid 1500 extra to get on my parents policy about 2 years ago when I was 17. But that was on a brand new car so that would have brought it up a small. But just ring and get a quote at least you know exactly what it costs.
