Photobox issues

Just an FYI for anyone thinking of using photobox

I wanted to get an irregular photo printed on 8x10. I selected the shrink to fit function which is supposed to shrink and fit the picture but leave white undeveloped "bars" on the side

The image arrived with about 5mm cropped off the top and bottom of the picture. One of my subjects feet were partially cropped out.

I contacted their support team who initially told me i needed a bigger sized print!!!!

When i pointed out how ridiculous that sounded they informed me that 3-5mm was cropped off every photo. I then pointed out that my other standard print did not have any cropped areas i got no response.

Anyone recommend another photo printing service?

why not just plonk your irregular sized photo in an 8x10 canvas and print that? Easy to do in Photoshop or Gimp (free) and you can control the composition. I've never had issues with photobox.

Photobox is probably the best online printing service out there, both in terms of quality and service. I've used them for years with zero complaints.

They do point out that there's a bit of bleed required when printing. If you're giving out about 5mm cropped off a shot, that's 0.2 of an inch, that's about the bottom 2% of the shot. Compose better in camera, or, as Hugh says above, put an actual frame around the shot if important elements of your shot are so close to the edge.

5mm is the FATG standard for how much a window mount should overlap art by

you would loose that much when framing

Yeah, i thought of doing that but the shrink facility convinced me not to

Unfortunately the shot did not give me the opportunity to frame differently!

Not only pissed off about the print but the suggestion to print on a larger size and failure to respond to a mail also annoyed me.

They made no attempt whatsoever to resolve the issue. That worries me, would it be the same with a wedding album etc....
