    Hi,

I'm travelling from Talinn to St. Petersburg via car in Sept.

What documents do I need when passing over the border into Russia?

    Thanks.

Not sure what documents you will need for the car but assuming you have an irish passport you will need a visa to enter Russia. Seeing as you are doing this in September and we are half way through August I would advise you to get this sorted as soon as possible.

You should have car ownership documents like a car passport. They are needed to prove the car is yours. Also your car insurance. If they are not in English you would probably need to have your documents translated and notarised into russian.

I'll be picking up a rental car in Talinn?

I called the embassy and there is a Rush order option on the Visa which is 3 working days for E100.

On the single entry tourism visa there is a few other documents that go with the visa application form. There is stuff in there about travel agency which is a bit confusing since I'm not using one.

I've contacted the hotel to see if they can provide me with this. Going to call the embassy again to make sure.

You´ll need to get a tourist voucher and tourist confirmation from a travel agency in Russia before you apply for your visa. This can be done online and only takes a few minutes and costs about 25 euro. You´ll also need travel insurance that will cover emergency medical exxpenses.

I´ve just applied for a single entry tourist visa for Russia this week so if you have any questions I´d be glad to help.

I booked my hotel through this crowd and also used their visa support to get the documentation I needed.

I would recommend discussing with Car rental company in Talinn. When I went to Russia I had to have a document stating the owner of the car and that the owner had authorised me to take it out of the country of registration. Also a special insurance card is needed for outside the EU. Car company would be the best.

For the visa stuff dont forget to get your hotel to register you in Russia. Otherwise you will have trouble getting out

The 3 working day visa processing is only if they're not overloaded, otherwise it may take longer but still faster than the standard processing time.

Standard processing time at the moment is 7 working days. I was in the Russian Embassy applying for my tourist visa on monday (12th) morning and was told it would be ready next Wednesday (21st)

What happened, just out of interest? I didn't think you could take a rental car over the Russian border.

Sorry very late getting back to this. I didn't bother going in the end but I'm thinking about going in February.

Rather then going to Talinn and renting car I was thinking of flying to Helsinki and getting train.

I re-applied for the Visa last week and got it back today

Going over to St Petersburg on the 22nd for 8 days.

Flying this time. No car rentals or border crossings to worry about.

Anyone got any advice or places I should see?
