Weird time of night to be in the back garden looking for grenades?

Any story on how the grenade got there? Or how old it was?

It was from 1922. It would have been there well before the housing scheme was built.

It makes you think how many more grenades could be scattered around under lawns!

the field between hyde rd and the boro pitch was used by the army as a firing range years ago. It was known as the bombing field and I expect it is a remnant of that time

No the Bombing Field was in what is now Prospect, and it was the British Army that used to fire their weapons there. According to my oul lad!

by army I meant the British Army too - but I think it was just that area at bottom of prospect hill - between the railway track and prospect hill. but similar/same area
