Would it be worth it for me to take 20-30acres of good land with maps on a long term lease from next year (2014). There is land up again me that has come up and I am trying to go out by myself with my own herd/flock number away from the parents! I have the Green cert and am well under 35 so was just wondering what people would advice go for the 20 acres and miss out on the rest or go with the thirty even though it would be atleast two years before I would have a high enough stocking rate for that much land. I assume I would get area aid for renting the land if I get the maps in 2014.. Anyone that could point me in the right direction feel free to comment!:)

your talking about 200+ an acre for good land and maps included, do the maths on it, prob not much to make off it but if u want to have a go, try it on a short term lease

Given it is your first time farming in 2014, you will not get anything automatically as things stand as you are a new entrant.

Unless something comes in the National Reserve

Kev do you mean a short term lease of 1 or 2 years yes?
And Nash I already have a herd number with a few entitlements forgot to mention that! ha So how will that work for me then?

Based on current read of the proposals, you will end up with the same € amount but more entitlements and may work to your advantage or disadvantage depending on what your entitlement value is at present.

Only you know your situation best at this stage.
