How to sign off for credits?

I was on JSB, came to an end last year, failed the means test for JSA but was advised to sign on for credits.

I signed on for credits once last year, but you only do it once a year, and since then I have gotten a job.

I tried phoning the social welfare office every day for 2 weeks with no reply, so I used their online form to tell them that I got a job and wish to sign off for credits, but I received no acknowledgement.

I am in work during the time the social welfare office is open. Should I write to them to let them know that I wish to sign off for credits - seeing as phone and website doesnt appear to have worked? Or will I just carry on and let them realise it and sign me off themselves when I dont show for the next sign on date (which is in October or November I think)?

Id just be concerned that doing nothing could result in problems if I ever had need of social welfare again.

I would write to them and keep a copy or photograph of it and make sure you date it. Could you get someone to call in on your behalf with your pps number.

Yeah, Ill probably write to them then.

I havent anyone Id ask to call in - tbh, I wouldnt ask someone to call in anyway because they could be queuing for an hour or more.

Its ludicrous that its impossible to contact them by phone and there is no response to their own online system.

There is an on line sign off option on welfare.ie.

That system does not issue an acknowledgement. If the claim was still open and you commenced working a Commencement of Employment form (COE1) wold issue. As there is no payment involved I would not be too concerned with the acknowledgment.

tbh if OP had prior notice of starting this job he could have called into his local office to let them know and then he would know for sure that his credit claim is closed. There is never an acknowledgement of you signing off online. If OP is worried about his signing off onlline not being acknowledged then OP could drop them a line.

There wasn't time. I was offered job and given quite a quick start date. I'll just write to them thanks.

So it looks like the online option doesnt work as I got a letter from SW today telling me to come to some advisory sessions re new courses that will be running. Clearly they think I am still in the system.
