Hi all just wondering what kind of security is involved in getting a pistol. Is is a restricted firearm?

Restricted pistols cannot be gotten anymore so it's an unrestricted firearm.

As for security. The minimum is whatever the Super deems is appropriate. That could be just a safe or it could be safe, alarm, etc.

It's a shi**y answer, but the only one i can give. No matter what i or others had to do, recommend, etc. the Super will have the last say, and it's his/her that matters.

General question, Do lads store their pistols in storage cases in the safe or just loose in the safe like a shotgun or rifle?

Would the "foam" in a pistol carry case affect the finish of a gun?

I stored mine in it's original case, but never whole. I always had a component taken out and stored elsewhere.

The original case never left the house. I had a separate case for traveling. It was clean, dry, and i'd take the gun out to clean/wipe weekly even when not in use. Never had an issue with marking, staining, etc. from being in the case/foam.

Might seem a bit silly but would it be anymore difficult to get a license if your address was a rented apartment instead of your own house? Anyone any experience with this? Currently live in an apartment and was wondering would I need more security? The apartment is alarmed.

Your problem there will be firstly getting permission from your landlord to drill holes in the wall/floor to secure a gun cabinet,Then iif he doesnt have a problem finding a solid concrete wall may be an issue!! Depending on the apartment, But to be honest providimg you meet the Supers requests on storage it being an apartment shouldnt be an issue!

I never had any problems when I was renting an apartment, even when the tenants next door were busted for running a drug ring out of their sitting room!. It will depend on your local super of course, and a landlord who won't mind a safe being fixed to the wall.
