Cervical Check Results Letter

Resurrecting this thread as I got my letter this morning and all it said was:

"The result of your smear test recommends that you have another smear test in twelve months time."

No result, nothing. I rang the doctor's office but the nurse who performed the test wasn't there and I was told she'd call tomorrow to talk about it.

Any ideas why results weren't in the letter or what that could mean?

Could be there wasn't a clear result or it was boarderline so they want you to have a test again in 12 months. If there was a more serious issue you'd be back in 6 months or sooner.

If there was anything wrong you would get a phone call from your doctor. I had a irregular smear in 2008 (Cn111)and my doctor phoned and asked me to go in to speak about it, I needed colposcopy and Lletz treatment.

I had a smear in June and the letter following it just said it detected no abnormalities and to have a repeat in 12 months !

You could just ring them to ease your mind but if there was any issues you would be phoned.

Think that's what my last two smear result letters said. I'm not sure exactly what they said but I know it wasn't spelt out clearly that I'd had a clear result so I rang up after receiving the first one. The receptionist said it was fine, that if there'd been any irregularities I would've been told to go back sooner. When I returned for the one in the 12 mths following, I asked the nurse why I'd been told to go back so soon and she said if there'd been any issues before, that they recommend 12 monthly ones for a few years (I forget how long).
I'd had cn1 in Oct 06 I think and a lletz procedure following a colposcopy which showed what turned out to be inflammation.

Thanks all. I'll have to wait until the nurse gives me a call anyway tomorrow to see exactly what the story is.

I had the same letter a while back. All it means is that there was a small change. Rest assured that if they thought there was anything serious going on they'd have you back in a lot sooner than 12 months.

Yeah got a call this morning, she said "atypical cells were detected"... and that they could go away themselves or they may not so to have another done in a year. A lovely year of worrying ahead... :\

I am surprised they would wait 12 months in this instance, but it seems they don't have any major reason to be concerned. To ease your own mind, maybe pay for another smear in 6 months time
