Seems it's only really free if you have UK terrestrial (Freeview) reception & that's only a small minority outside of NI.

Sky 2 is a subscription channel & there's no mention of the satellite version of Pick TV, which is free-to-air.

Yeh its FTV (to clarify for certain individuals ;)) with a valid Sky viewing card on Sky Two for the day in the UK and Ireland.

It will also be available on Pick TV (on Freeview and You View) on Saturday 17th August.

I think they just meant free opening 'day' of the live football coverage

Just checked the schedule for Saturday on my sky box and it is showing that Sky 2 is doing Sky Sports :)

Just to clarify this once and for all, because there has been a fair amount of confusion on this topic.

On Saturday 17th August, programming from Sky Sports 1 will be simulcast on the version of Pick TV on Freeview, and Sky Two, between 10:00am and 8:00pm. The schedule for the simulcast is as follows:

10:00am Soccer AM (which is normally simulcast on Sky One anyway)
12:00noon FL72 Live: Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday
2:30pm Saturday Night Football Team Talk
    3:00pm Gillette Soccer Saturday
5:00pm Live Ford Saturday Night Football: Swansea City v Manchester United.

Pick TV will not be simulcasting this programming on satellite. This is because the satellite version of Pick TV is free to air, and for Sky to do this would break its contract with the Premier League, in which Sky has only been granted rights to the Premier League in the UK, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey.

Satellite viewers will instead be able to watch the simulcast on Sky Two, which is not free to air - or for that matter, free to view - but is a pay-TV channel, part of the Sky Entertainment Pack on Sky Digital.

    Exactly.

There seems to be much confusion - on a dedicated broadcast forum no less - over the terms free-to-air, free-to-view and subscription tv.

Not sure what individuals need clarifying for but posts like this only confuse matters!
Sky's gave all the clarification needed from the first day they announced plans for Premier League Day 1.

According to UPC's guide it's available on both Sky2 and Pick TV

Pick TV on satellite will have a split schedule.

What feed to UPC take? Satellite or Freeview.

If they take the Freeview feed that would explain this.

For those with Freeview (the vast majority in the north of the island) it is free.

True - but then again Snaps was responding to ICDG's post in which the UK and Ireland were listed separately, so his meaning (Republic) was understood.

While the EPG data is listing the simulcast, it's actually showing its normal schedule, so we've the satellite version.

Have Freesat and Pick TV's schedule is nothing but programmes about airports and animals all day :confused:

Due to contractual reasons Sky Sports was simulcast on Sky 2 (requires a subscription) and Pick TV on Freeview only. AFAIK problem was that Pick TV on Freesat could be watched in Europe and Sky only have PL rights to show their matches across these islands.
