Dune Strategy games, need reboot badly

Dune really needs a reboot, was an excellent strategy game and I was particularily fond of the Emperor:battle for dune game made by Westwood/EA that game was made when westwood were at the peak of their powers, and was their first foray into 3d strategy with controllable cameras. A lot of the lessons learned here went into making generals.

It also had a turn based map, which to me was genre defining. Along with the CGI cut scenes we all came to love at the time.

The world is already there waiting with well defined Factions (Houses) .
Would love to see this again.

was actually thinking of playing through that again. The TB strategic map was brilliant, and i've only ever seen that in one or two games since. Was it Lieutentant Worf - Micheal Dorn from star trek tng that played as an Atriedes Duke?

    And wormsign!

Emperor was brilliant back then, I remember you had these units that if destroyed would blow up their internal reactor, killing units nearby ?

The mercenary thing was nice too, deciding which units to hire etc.

desgrassinoel: Michael Dorn was indeed Duke Atreides :)
Nicholas Worth (Premier Romanov of Red Alert 2) was also in it.

Even the graphics still hold up to this day.

If the Dune series isn't revisited, I'll get very upset and start pulling out heartplugs.....:D

Yes the idea of mercs and aligning yourself with 2 of them was very interesting.

I think I used to like the fremen and the sardaukar, I played as house atredies most of the time.

The only weak point with the tactical map in Emperor Battle for dune was you often ending up fighting the same map again and again after each tactical turn.

The idea of the mercs could be an interesting addition to modern strategy games, imagine the new generals game and you can align yourself with private merc armies like blackwater or similar .

    Twas a good game.

I remember playing it and people would lag out the game with those replicators.

There was quite a lot of dept to the game. Great book, dodgy film :) and then a great game.

I'm not sure how a reboot would come. I've moved away from the base building games. This was practically a one base game. So all operations came from one 'island'. A lot of the maps made base defense too easy.

Killing men with house harks buzz saws.... That just made it all worth while.

Feck the tanks; it was the harvesters I cared about!
