Was out on untouched land of mine last night. I Havint been on it in months and always has healthy population of rabbits on it. But last night 8 rabbits in an hour and 7 had start signs of mixxy.
They were still quite alert with one who's eyes were shut and unable to open yet he still ran for the ditch and I managed to plug him with the shotgun.
Just wondering should I hit this place hard and shoot a good lot to or would yas reckon they all have it. One of which was only about 10 weeks old and had the signs of mixxy. Also seen a Snow White rabbit and a black one so I'm thinking inbreeding has started aswell.

The ones with Mixy will stay close to the Holes, best thing to do is start hammering any ones that show any signs you might be able to cut it off but it's a fair chance you will only end up with about a third of the previous number if your lucky

I remember a story Dad used to tell about working out Western Queensland on the wrong side of the Dingo Proof Fence in the 1950's when Myxo first came through, there were thousands of dead Rabbits in every paddock (a Paddock would be roughly the size as an Irish Parish) said you could not ride through there for weeks afterwards with the smell of the place.

Yes - our rabbit shooting grounds - which had loads of rabbits - now has myxo.

We are just doing what you said..trying to shoot any of those with signs of disease.........probably like trying to keep back the tide.

I'd say this year, weather wise, encouraged the spread of myxo......with stagnant pools of water and then warm, tropical weather is ideal for tick, fleas etc. to breed in..........had those conditions at end June / early July.

I think the heatwave we had has spread the myxi like wild fire. My permissions were carrying plenty of rabbits but since the heatwave theres hardly any. Any I have seen since have had myxi.

yeah it's back here too. any time I see mixy I blitz the place concentrating on infected rabbits. when I first started shooting on my current rabbit ground easily 50% of rabbits were infected now it's more like 5 to 10%. I don't know if that's down to me but I'm taking credit for it anyway. B-)
