Dublin Horse Show 2013 on RTE

Watching this year's Horse Show from upstate New York via a VPN, and the first thing I notice is, AT LONG LAST!!!!

After seven years, the folks at Montrose have finally pensioned off those painty opening titles and waltzy theme tune. :D:D:D

It must be said that it would have been a pretty stupid move had they not done so, seeing as they've saved themselves a fair amount of money by deciding to scrap Premier League highlights.

As for these replacements? Bit of a shame that the theme tune is still orchestral - and it's rather dramatic for the Horse Show, as are the titles. Anything seems like an improvement on the last seven years, though...

At the RDS, meanwhile, that was a good win for Nick Skelton and co in the Aga Khan.

I like the painty stuff and the orchestra music... I didn't see it on tv because I was there but being there, and having watched it on tv before, I think the 'dramatics' if it suits the tension you experience being there, especially during the AgaKhan and Puissance.

I still miss the old RTE SJ theme tune (found on this video from Millstreet!:))

    Brilliant find, Horsetiger!!! :D:D:D:):):);););)

That theme tune, of course, was used until 2005 - and ought to be regarded as a classic, IMHO.

If the folks at Montrose ever decide to bring it back, though, then no doubt they'll have it re-recorded in a bland way, without synthesisers...

As for the video, not only is it from a time when Robert Hall had more hair, but it's also from a time when RTE's commitment to show jumping was much greater. Nowadays, the Dublin Horse Show is pretty much the only event they broadcast...
