    Hey,

I'm a qualified teacher, and have three years experience, but unfortunately, there has been cut-backs in my school this year, so I'm one of the 6 that it bothers, so I'm looking for new work.

I've actually got a pain in my arse with the teaching situation at this stage - year to year, no job security etc, so I'm looking to get into some office admin / IT work instead, until the teaching scene picks up again (although I wont hold my breath).

I've a degree in Business & IT, so am looking to find out how I'd go applying for these jobs - or more to the point, should I use agencies, or whats peoples experiences?..does everybody use agencies to get into these office / admin jobs, or what?

It's a shame, cos I love teaching, and the school environment, but I'm just so fed up with it - it's very hard with the lack of job security - obviously I know that most places are never guaranteed to keep your job forever given the current climate, but in schools, its a joke if your new - it's basically year to year.

I've done the whole travelling thing too(Canada for two years), and came back to get back into teaching - what a joke!

anyway, any feedback / help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

    cheers folks

Ive a business and I.T background. It was a lot easier to find work after my degree but with bout of work and went back to college did computer course would say had more interviews but not much luck with interviews and getting a secure job. Its case of freelance, online course to fill cv gap may have to update skills further or move for a job.

Maybe a jobbridge might suit or part time course but be sure to apply here and the uk if not much luck canada best bet lot more business, I.T. And admin office jobs in canada. Finding it hard getting into them here due to demand and competition and experience required and specific skill sought despite i could do in my sleep but they look for more, qualities, transferable skills, competency skills etc degree, qualifications and experience isnt enough even for starting at lower scale or professional level.

Grad jobs and low entry jobs are very competitive. They require certain lenght of experience and expect to be ready trained before hand. Direct entry to job and hands on learning in a job is not always the case employers expect you to have ground work done!

Would you consider travelling elsewhere to be a teacher or do you want to stay in Ireland? The Emirate States are really popular with Irish people lately and my cousin is in Abu Dhabi teaching for the last two years.

being honest, no! I've spent two years away from home, because I wanted to on the first year - after the first year, I was ready to come home, but I was just turned off it by the amount of negativity over here from people, and then reading the news etc everyday, just sort of made me stay there for the second year - I said that I'd come back after the second year, because I didn't wanna bury my head in the sand for much longer.

I've had a lot of offers from the UK for teaching, but I happen to love Dublin, and Ireland. I've a life here, a dog, a family, a car, friends, the usual, and I don't wanna give it all up again, but I'm willing to give up the teaching dream for now though, mainly cos I don't wanna leave here again - that's why I'm lookin elsewhere for work.

Ah yeah, that's fair enough. I'm not in IT etc., myself so can't offer any advice only than to wish you the best of luck.

Would you consider going traveling again?

I could get you a well paid teaching job in China no bother.
