Clooney putting a team together again! Looks like one to keep an eye on at least. Great cast as well. Supposedly the book is supposed to be great.

Reminds me quite a bit of the Ocean's films with an Inglorious Basterds twist.

Looks good. Has the Hollywood sheen you'd expect, really.

Looks interesting; I've generally enjoyed Clooney as a director so will keep an ear out for this. It looks like a very cut & dry 'caper' film, but that's no bad thing to me; gives off a kind of reverse Kelly's Heroes vibe.

It looks an interesting film alright and more so now that a whole host of paintings have been found just recently.

It actually reminds me of those kind of films from the 70s where they get a whole host of big name stars in WW2 movies.

Looks like we'll be waiting a while to see this one, with the release date put back until well into next year http://entertainment.ie/cinema/news/George-Clooneys-Monuments-Men-out-of-the-running-for-Oscar-glory/223730.htm

I thought so. Wouldn't have had a hope of getting an oscar anyway. Just a very plain, simplistic old film. Nothing funny about the bits where it was meant to be funny. It was all a bit rushed. And the ending was hilarious just because it was so cringey.

Yeah I didn't really like it either. I was quite bored for most of it.

What a waste of a great cast.

    I'd concur with that.

    Also
no americans were harmed in the making of this movie. the only two foreigners die. plus that ending... cheesus christ.

Was totally underwhelmed with this too, it seemed to amble along without any real drama, great cast, could have been a total boy's own Saturday afternoon WW2 flick but lacked spark. Wasn't bad, just painfully average, the theme tune was brilliant though.

It looks like one of those films that's trying to be everything (comedy, action, drama, thriller, etc..) and failing on all fronts.

It had such potential, and such an excellent cast. But yes, it was disappointing. It all moved too fast.

For a movie with such a gripping story, it failed to hold my interest for more than a few minutes here and there.

I actually found my mind drifting while watching it, wondering about the actual story itself and what it must have been like for these soldiers and if they got a hard time off their fellow soldiers for worrying about paintings and sculptures when so many were dying on the front line and then.. I remembered I was at the cinema and so should really be paying attention to what was on the screen. Think that happened around a dozen times or more.

A really great story, not very well told, sums it up.

Yeah, sort of odd to see A listers in such a poorly executed film. I cant put my finger on why it didn't work, it sounded good on paper.

Great cast but average story, got lost in it a few times, trying to figure it out, looks like they had more fun off the set & at least Bill & George will always have Venice.

Maybe worth a rewatch, when i have the time?

Just back from a late showing and rather enjoyed this. It's a simple tale told in a decidedly old fashioned manner and all the better for it. The cast are great and obviously having a lot of fun and while the film never manages to be as gripping as the story should, it's a pleasant distraction of the kind that they don't really make anymore.
