Drainage around the house. Bit of flooding.

Eh....this is likely to sound stupid :D Skip to the last paragraph for the question and to ignore the longer explanation!

Anyways, the last few bouts of heavy rain we had we had a bit of a problem regarding flooding around the house. No damage really, thankfully, but alot of water. Our first problem is that the previous owners of the house left the drainage pipes raised in case tarmac was to go down. So the water that did come on to the street had no where to go other that down the lane (taking quite a bit of the lane with it) and into the cattle grid where another pipe takes it into the main drainage system. This is easy enough solved by sorting those raised pipes. But.... all the pipes lead to the cattle grid and on days like those of the heavy rain I dont think it would take it all. It was struggling that day. i.e. water bubbling out on to the road etc.

Problem is there is a field up behind us which seems to have a small stream develop and flow down when it rains really heavily. This then comes down to us (lower than the field). A small drainage line looks to have been dug on our side at the bottom of the field but 1) doesnt drain all of it away, quite alot filters down and 2) the parts that are drained away come back on to the street because it isnt linked anywhere! There is a ditch down the side of the lawn which we should be able to get that connected on to in some way.

So... long story short... what sort of person would I be looking for to do this kind of work. i.e. someone who could come in and be able to tell us the best way to sort the drainage and to possibly carry out the work aswell. Landscaper?

Also wasnt sure which forum to put this in so mods feel free to move where necessary.

a good groundworker should be able to figure out a run for you, or if you wanted you could engage an engineer to work on a long term drainage solution for you.
