    Hi,

Im hoping to pick up a new laptop around the end of August any suggestions would be greatly appriciated:

    Budget: 500-700

Use: Want to be able to play games also though, some of the older 1st person shooters but mostly Rome II and the other total war games and also college work + web browsing.

Mobility: Will be bringing it into college regularly but this isn't that important once it can fit in a backpack.

Warrantly: I'll wing it & hope not to live to regret it!

    Opperating Sytsem: Used to Windows

    Payment method: Visa debit

Thanks a mill in advance for any suggestions.

I like the acers. You can get nvidia graphics in an acer aspire for under GBP£500 on Amazon.co.uk. Battery life tends to be poor, however. Go for Win 7 if you are used to windows (and if you can find it!) as win 8 is very different, I think. The games that you mention though might be able to run on Intel graphics, in which case you can get a much cheaper laptop. Check that out first.

Thanks for the reply Anothony B, was looking at the Acers myself, dont's seem like you can get anything with Windows 7 anymore all seem to be Winows 8 unfortunately.

I've a few that I'm browsing and looking for some advice one which seems best for the games I've mentioned/value:

They all have poor graphics cards, nothing really suitable for gaming. The Radeon HD 8750 being the best of the lot is slower than a GT 640M, which is nothing to write home about.

Thanks Torqay, it's been so long since I actually had anything capable of playing games, what graphics cards should I be looking out for laptop wise? Obviously I'm pricing myself out of top of the range laptops with a limit of 700 euro so that has to be considered

    Thanks

    Hi Torqay,

That seems like a great laptop, I was hoping to use Komplett.ie preferably as I know I'm going to get ripped off with the conversion rate. Is there a lot of difference between the one you've recommended and this Sony one http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product/zkb-02pc/20205380/sony-vaio-f15/details.aspx aside from the touch screen which I don't really care about?

The other question is do you think it's worth while to go the extra 100 euro for this Toshiba? http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product/zkb-02pc/80011778/toshiba-satellite-l50-a-16hnl/details.aspx

I'll be picking one up in the next day or two anyhow.

    Thanks a mill,

The Sony has an ULV processor, better power efficiency (battery life) but less performance, if you don't mind paying 800, get the Tosh.

    Here are some CPU benchmarks.

If you're thinking about a nice SSD for your new quad Core i7 laptop, the 250 GB Samsung 840 Evo costs 150 yoyos.
