Lost HTC One...Meteor say I have to buy PAYG replacement phone?

I lost a HTC One and I've just been chatting to meteor using their online chat. Their agent says I can only get a PAYG replacement phone.

Is this just the case online, would it be possible to buy a replacement in a Meteor shop?

If not, what are my options for getting a new HTC One?

    Are you on contract?

If so you're on contract for that phone. So if you want a new HTC, you will have to buy it PAYG.

Yes I'm about a month into a 24 month contract.

Does anyone know if I can buy this phone in a Meteor shop?

I assume I have to buy from Meteor or it will not work? (Because phones are locked to networks??)

You can buy a SIM free one if it's cheaper.

Ooo ouch. 600 quid ish for the hand set. You don't have to buy a HTC one btw if you are strapped for cash. That's a right kick in the balls sorry to hear it.

    Look at adverts.ie

Find a seller with good feedback. You can get these for around €400 or so.

Ouch, dude so sorry to hear that. :(

You don't have to buy a HTC One, Since you are on a contract you can get a new sim card with the same number. Any sim free phone will work , though i recommend you get another smartphone as you (most likely) have 5 GBs of data, no point letting that go to waste.

I take it you've no insurance on the Phone, its always a must buy for me

As long as your new phone is SIM free (unlocked) or a Meteor phone then you can use your Meteor SIM card in it. If the HTC One is too much to replace look at a cheaper alternative while you wait for your contract to end so you can upgrade or move network to get a better new phone cheap or free.

Consider the Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini - https://store.meteor.ie/phones/pay-as-you-go-phones/galaxy-SIII-mini
    The Sony Xperia E - https://store.meteor.ie/phones/pay-as-you-go-phones/xperia-e
    Or the Nokia Lumia 620 - https://store.meteor.ie/phones/pay-as-you-go-phones/nokia-lumia-620

They are not as good as your HTC One but they are much cheaper alternatives for the meantime. I also suggest insurance for the future, especially when you have a phone worth over €400. If you have home contents insurance check to see if your phone is covered and make sure to contact Meteor to blacklist your lost phone.

From what Im told, Meteor use Mobilecover.ie. Ive heard some stories about them being like the Quinn Direct of mobile phone insurances ( they try everything in their power to get out of paying out ) but I know a few people who have cover with them and have claimed from them too and haven't had any problems. One person I know who claimed off them was waiting a week for a replacement but that was due to a shortage in supply though, They did however offer him a different phone instead though so not really a negative a such.

I bought one myself the other day and was gonna fork out the 500 quid + they're charging for a sim free one in the shops but ended up taking it from O2 on a 6 month contract 179 for the phone and 6 months at 55. Total cost is 509 euro and I got plenty of calls, text and data for free that I wouldn't have got had i bought it sim free for more... At the end of the 6 months I'm just gonna cancel the contract and revert the sim over to prepay. BTW O2 gave me the unlock code for the phone 24 hours after I received it.

Might be an option for you to get it a bit cheaper and get a few extras thrown in.

Bit of a long shot, but did you pay with credit card? Some offer temp insurance for products bought using them
